Job description
Our Cloud Foundations SRE team is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to build and support secure cloud foundations for AWS GovCloud environments supporting FedRAMP High and DoD IL5 compliance. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can independently own cloud foundation initiatives with minimal guidance while designing secure, scalable, and compliant cloud infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with platform and engineering teams to build reusable cloud services, governance frameworks, and automation., * Design, build, and operate AWS GovCloud foundations supporting FedRAMP High and IL5 environments.
- Manage AWS Organizations, Control Tower, account provisioning, and account lifecycle automation.
- Develop and maintain Service Control Policies (SCPs), landing zone architectures, and cloud governance automation.
- Build reusable Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) modules and standardized cloud deployment patterns.
- Implement secure cloud resource standards including VPC architectures, IAM patterns, prefix lists, and account-level controls.
- Develop Cloud Foundations services including:
- Cloud account provisioning workflows
- Email service enablement
- GCP project and key management
- FinOps reporting
- Compliance automation
- Partner with engineering teams to implement secure cloud architecture aligned with FedRAMP High and DoD IL5 requirements.
- Participate in production support, incident response, operational ticket triage, and cloud support activities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, design documents, and audit-ready operational records.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship on secure cloud adoption and best practices.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Software Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- AWS multi-account environments
- AWS Organizations
- IAM
- Terraform
- Cloud governance
- Experience developing automation using Python, Go, Ruby, or similar programming languages.
- Experience with AWS services such as:
- AWS Control Tower
- Account Factory for Terraform (AFT)
- CloudFormation
- EventBridge
- Lambda
- SQS
- IAM Identity Center
- Strong understanding of cloud reliability, security, cost optimization, and developer experience.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to document operational processes and support audit requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS GovCloud environments.
- Experience supporting FedRAMP, DoD IL5, FIPS, or other regulated cloud environments.
- Experience with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, compliance automation, guardrail platforms, or account provisioning workflows.
- Experience building reusable Terraform modules and standardized cloud infrastructure patterns for engineering teams.
