Job description

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist (ITS) 4. Reporting to the Manager Information Technology Services 1 for the Desktop Support Services, the incumbent of this position will supervise a team of ITS 3’s and RSA’s (Regional Support Administrators) to support the Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES) program area. Duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to the IT staff you manage supporting the ACCES program area;
  • Oversee and manage the identification and procurement for all ACCES-related Information Technology equipment and services, ensuring compliance with budget allocations for technology equipment as well as organizational policies;
  • Travel to ACCES district and satellite office throughout the state to analyze department computer technology needs
  • Make recommendations to NYSED and ACCES managers on how to deploy or redeploy equipment in the most efficient manner.
  • Evaluate new PC related hardware and software and maintain knowledge
  • Lead the planning and execution of Information Technology related projects and office relocations, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, in both Department owned and leased work locations, to ensure seamless transitions and minimal disruption to operations;
  • Develop and deploy software deployment programs and policies using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM), ensuring consistent and secure application management across the organization;
  • Provide supervision, guidance, support, and mentorship to supervisee’s;
  • Delegate tasks effectively and foster a collaborative team environment;
  • Develop comprehensive training materials and documentation for the Regional Support Administrator (RSA) usage, simplifying complex concepts and procedures for end-users;
  • Create work orders via the Jira ticketing system to maintain proper inventory tracking, including adding new hardware configurations, removing old configurations/equipment and keeping them up to date with our hardware vendor.

Requirements

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-23 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Section 52.6 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-23 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, competitive appointment. This may be a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for this title when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 50% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office

This position requires occasional off-shift night and weekend work.

Federal law may impose additional requirements or restrictions regarding positions that receive federal funding.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $121,413 based on annual performance For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts
