Job description
- Design and implement observability solutions using Datadog and OpenTelemetry.
- Instrument applications to collect technical and business metrics.
- Build dashboards and monitoring solutions that provide actionable insights for engineering and business teams.
- Define and implement KPIs, SLIs and SLOs in collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.
- Design structured logging strategies and metrics collection pipelines.
- Analyze logs, traces and metrics to improve system reliability and performance.
- Develop and maintain ETL processes for observability and operational data when required.
- Work closely with software engineers to improve application instrumentation across Python, Java and TypeScript services.
- Help evolve our cloud monitoring capabilities on AWS.
- Promote observability best practices across projects.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Platform Engineer, Observability Engineer or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with Datadog, including APM, Custom Metrics, Dashboards and Distributed Tracing.
- Experience instrumenting applications for both technical and business metrics.
- Strong knowledge of OpenTelemetry and Datadog SDK.
- Experience defining and implementing SLIs, SLOs and operational KPIs.
- Solid understanding of structured logging and metrics collection.
- Good knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with Python.
- Familiarity with Java and/or TypeScript is a plus.
- Experience working with Git and Linux environments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have
- Experience building ETL pipelines.
- Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools.
- Knowledge of traffic management and communication between distributed services.
- Experience working with CloudWatch and integrating AWS monitoring with Datadog.
- Experience collaborating with business stakeholders to define operational KPIs.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and microservices architectures.
