Database Administrator

As a Database Administrator, you’ll take hands-on responsibility for the day-to-day health of managed database environments. You’ll monitor and resolve issues, maintain performance and resilience, and help deliver safe upgrades and service improvements.

You’ll be responsible for: Monitoring SQL Server database environments and responding to alerts, incidents and service issues Investigating root causes and implementing practical fixes or workarounds Maintaining database performance, security, reliability and access controls Managing backup and restoration processes in line with service requirements Supporting database migrations, capacity planning and performance optimisation Delivering database patches, upgrades and installations through agreed change controls Keeping operational procedures and technical documentation current Sharing knowledge with colleagues and contributing to practical service and process improvements Supporting occasional planned evening or weekend work when required; there is no formal UK on-call rota, APAC colleagues cover UK overnight hours, and out-of-hours work is compensated in line with policy

Proven hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in an enterprise production environment Experience with database monitoring, incident resolution and root-cause analysis Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, performance tuning, indexing and SQL query optimisation Understanding of database security, access governance and high-availability principles Experience supporting database patches, upgrades or migrations A reliable, collaborative approach, a practical problem-solving mindset and a genuine appetite to learn Clear written and verbal communication skills and confidence working in a globally distributed team Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms or shell scripting would be useful, but these can be developed in the role

Are you a SQL Server Database Administrator who enjoys keeping business-critical systems stable, secure and performing well?

We’re looking for a Database Administrator to join Tribal’s Platform Engineering team and support the database environments behind our global education software. This is a permanent, remote UK role with a salary of £53,000-£60,000.

SQL Server experience is the main technical requirement. You may also work with Oracle, PostgreSQL and cloud-hosted databases, but you don’t need to be an expert in those areas on day one - the team can support you in developing them.
