Job description
Weâre seeking an experienced and proactive Network & VOIP Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex network infrastructures, and will take direct ownership of our clientsâ VoIP systems, from initial deployment through ongoing support. Your work will directly impact the reliability, security, and scalability of client systems, ensuring their technology supports business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Configuration:
Design, configure, and manage network infrastructure, including firewalls (Sophos, SonicWall, or Meraki preferred), managed switches, VLANs, wireless controllers, and access points.
VoIP Deployment & Administration:
Plan, configure, and deploy hosted VoIP solutions for clients, including number porting, provisioning, cutover coordination, and client training.
Troubleshoot and resolve voice quality issues, call routing problems, and connectivity failures.
Configure QoS and network segmentation to support reliable voice traffic.
Performance Monitoring:
Monitor and optimize network performance, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
Security Management:
Implement robust network security measures and conduct firewall policy reviews aligned with each clientâs risk profile, proactively mitigating unauthorized access and potential threats.
Client Collaboration:
Partner with clients to assess networking and voice needs and deliver customized solutions.
Coordinate with internal teams to communicate project timelines and manage client expectations through deployments and ongoing systems evolution.
Provide expert guidance on network and VoIP best practices and improvements.
Maintenance & Upgrades:
Conduct regular assessments, upgrades, and firmware updates to enhance network and voice performance and reliability.
Documentation:
Create and maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and procedural documentation for team and client reference. Log all work with complete notes and time in our PSA and documentation platforms.
Technical Support:
Offer advanced technical support and troubleshooting for network and voice issues to clients and internal teams, ensuring timely resolution. Participate in an on call rotation for after hours network and VoIP incidents.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or similar role, ideally in an MSP or multi site environment.
- Expertise in configuring and managing firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless networking.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, routing, and switching concepts.
- Hands on experience deploying and supporting hosted VoIP systems in SMB environments, including managing cutovers, handling number porting with carriers, and navigating the telecom side of a voice migration.
- Familiarity with QoS configuration and network segmentation for voice traffic., * Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with MSP environments or experience managing networks for multiple clients.
- Experience with a PSA platform, such as Autotask, and documentation tools like IT Glue.
- Knowledge of cloud networking (e.g., Azure, AWS networking) is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional problem solving skills with a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non technical clients in plain language.
- Strong documentation habits, writing clear notes before closing a ticket.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
