Job description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior VoIP, VTC & Telephony Solution Engineer to design, integrate, validate, deploy, and support enterprise Unified Communications (UC) and Collaboration solutions.

This position will serve as a senior technical contributor and may act as the technical lead for assigned projects, engineering initiatives, and complex implementations. The engineer will develop solutions to challenging technical problems spanning multiple systems and technologies while ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, supportable, and operationally ready.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in enterprise voice, video, telephony, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Session Border Controllers (SBCs), and modern collaboration platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role that also requires strong technical leadership, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration., VoIP, Telephony & Collaboration Engineering

  • Design and integrate enterprise VoIP, VTC, telephony, SIP, SBC, and collaboration solutions.
  • Engineer enterprise dial plans, E.164 number normalization, digit manipulation, call routing, SIP trunking, carrier connectivity, PSTN services, voice gateways, voicemail, and emergency-calling capabilities.
  • Design and integrate multi-vendor VTC and audiovisual collaboration environments, including Cisco Room Series, Webex, Poly, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Crestron, Zoom Rooms, and comparable technologies.
  • Develop integrations between on-premises voice infrastructure and cloud collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams Phone, Direct Routing, Operator Connect, and Webex Calling.
  • Design for high availability, geographic redundancy, survivability, disaster recovery, capacity management, and service continuity.
  • Evaluate emerging voice, video, and collaboration technologies through proof-of-concept testing, interoperability testing, and technical risk assessments.

Hands-On Engineering & Troubleshooting

  • Configure, integrate, test, and deploy IP telephony systems, SIP proxies, voice gateways, Session Border Controllers, VTC systems, and unified communications platforms.
  • Configure and troubleshoot SBC technologies including AudioCodes, Ribbon, Cisco CUBE, Oracle Communications SBC/Acme Packet, and comparable platforms.
  • Troubleshoot complex voice and video issues involving call routing, signaling, media negotiation, interoperability, packet loss, jitter, latency, one-way audio, call quality, and service availability.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, identify underlying technical issues, develop corrective actions, and document lessons learned.
  • Evaluate routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, NAT, DNS, certificates, and transport conditions affecting voice and video services.
  • Support monitoring, alerting, call-quality analytics, call-detail records, capacity reporting, and service trend analysis.

Network & QoS Integration

  • Collaborate with Network and Transport Engineering teams to design and validate end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Support DSCP and Layer 2 Class of Service marking, queuing, shaping, policing, call-admission control, bandwidth planning, and class-of-service mapping.
  • Analyze IP networking and transport conditions affecting SIP signaling and real-time voice/video traffic.
  • Perform packet-level analysis and troubleshooting to identify network, signaling, media, and interoperability issues.

Systems Engineering & Solution Lifecycle

  • Analyze operational, functional, technical, cybersecurity, performance, availability, and supportability requirements.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into system, subsystem, interface, configuration, and testing requirements.
  • Evaluate technical alternatives based on capability, cost, risk, interoperability, lifecycle status, security, supportability, and implementation complexity.
  • Develop and maintain high-level and low-level designs, interface definitions, bills of material, configuration baselines, implementation procedures, rollback plans, test plans, and as-built documentation.
  • Plan and perform laboratory validation, interoperability testing, system testing, acceptance testing, and other verification activities.
  • Support the transition of new and modified solutions into operations, ensuring monitoring, documentation, training, support procedures, and operational dependencies are addressed.

Technical Leadership & Project Execution

  • Lead the technical planning and execution of complex VoIP, VTC, telephony, and collaboration projects.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across multiple technical areas and identify dependencies, risks, and technical milestones.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers assigned to projects and engineering initiatives.
  • Review engineering work products and resolve technical issues affecting performance, schedule, security, or operational readiness.
  • Support engineering estimates, bills of material, implementation schedules, staffing assumptions, and levels of effort.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, troubleshooting, peer reviews, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration

  • Work closely with network engineering, cybersecurity, operations, program management, customers, telecommunications carriers, and technology vendors.
  • Lead or participate in technical interchange meetings, architecture reviews, design reviews, test-readiness reviews, and implementation-readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate technical activities with equipment manufacturers, software providers, SIP providers, telecommunications carriers, system integrators, and other technical partners.
  • Clearly communicate technical issues, risks, alternatives, and recommendations to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Typically 8-12 years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor’s degree or 6-10 years with a master’s degree. Equivalent education, certifications, and practical experience may be considered.
