Job description

  • Design and develop thermal systems and interfaces for active thermal control.
  • Conduct thermal analysis to evaluate the performance of thermal components.
  • Collaborate with design and development teams to integrate thermal solutions into product designs.
  • Perform thermal testing and validation of thermal components to ensure they meet design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Optimize thermal designs to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product performance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of thermal component designs, analysis, and testing results.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in thermal management technologies and methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to thermal component design and performance.
  • Work as part of a team that includes procurement, manufacturing, quality assurance and technical support organizations to establish functional specifications for components to select vendors/suppliers for purchased parts, materials, and assemblies.
  • Identify the risk areas in design development and optimization opportunities.
  • Perform hands-on evaluation of prototype system build/sub-assembly build /thorough product performance assessment.
  • Provide hands-on support during product installation and commissioning at customer sites. Provide guidance to field service team.
  • Act as customer contact on selective technical matters.
  • All other duties and tasks that may be required.

Requirements

  • PhD or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, or physics.

General work experience:

  • 10+ years of experience. Direct experience within semiconductor test environment as a thermal design engineer preferably.
  • Ability to travel (domestically & internationally).

Problem solving and analytical skills:

  • Strong analysis & synthesis capabilities. Experience with thermal modeling/analysis tools such as SolidWorks Flow, Ansys, or Icepak a plus.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with an ability to address challenges that span across engineering disciplines.

Collaboration and team facilitation skills:

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams that build complex test systems comprised of motion control hardware, electrical and software components. Experience facilitating global team efforts a plus.

Engineering skills/experience

  • Experience in semiconductor die/package level test thermal interactions.
  • Expertise in conduction and convection based thermal systems. Experience in chiller and heat exchangers is a plus.
  • Experience with thermal control solutions for semiconductor testing (i.e. feedback controls, feedforward controls, proactive power controls, etc)
  • Experience in working with heaters, Peltiers, heatsinks, sockets, two phase cooling, cryogenics, and system design for condensation abatement desired.
  • Experience in semiconductor packaging, testing, and integrating thermal systems into automated handling preferred. Expertise within package (thermal-mechanical) interfacing challenges a plus.
  • 3D design experience and working knowledge of SolidWorks.

Additional Skills Preferred:

  • Technology management experience - with an ability to define and maintain technology roadmap strategies that align to business needs. MBA degree (Technology management) a plus.
  • Experience with the design and deployment of semiconductor test capital equipment.
  • Experience in developing IP and submitting patents.

This is a unique opportunity for a talented, experienced engineer with a diverse skill set to work within several engineering disciplines. This individual will perform a wide range of complex thermal /mechanical engineering functions related to design, testing and evaluation of thermal systems for testing electronic systems including semiconductors, photonics, and embedded devices. Conducts testing on new and modified designs and develops engineering prototypes.
