Job description

We are seeking a Business Applications Analyst with strong PowerShell, SQL, and analytical skills to join our IT team. In this role, you’ll learn to deconstruct complex business processes into clear, logical steps, then build automation and reporting solutions to support and improve those processes. Over time, you will become the organization’s subject-matter expert on Health Solutions Plus (HSP), the core platform used across multiple departments to support our operations as a Third-Party Administrator (TPA). Full training and onboarding on HSP is provided, so no prior experience with the platform is required.

This role sits at the intersection of business processes, data, and automation. You’ll work closely with operational teams to understand what they need to happen, and with IT to build how it happens. You’ll join a small, close-knit IT team (2-3 people) where responsibilities span broadly and every team member’s contributions have a direct, visible impact on the business.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop deep, functional expertise in HSP, serving as the go-to internal resource for how it works, how data flows through it, and how it connects to other systems
  • Partner with business stakeholders across departments to document and map existing workflows within HSP, identifying manual, repetitive, or error-prone steps
  • Break down complex, multi-step business processes into clear, sequential logic that can be automated or systematized
  • Design, write, and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate manual processes, file handling, data transformations, and system integrations related to HSP
  • Write and optimize SQL queries (SQL Server) to extract, validate, transform, and report on data supporting HSP-driven business operations
  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies and process failures, using strong analytical reasoning to identify root cause rather than just symptoms
  • Create and maintain documentation for HSP-related processes, scripts, and configurations
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to scope, test, and roll out process improvements
  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for HSP and related automated processes

Requirements

  • 2-4+ years of experience in a business analyst, application support, or technical analyst role
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting (or strong scripting experience in another language with willingness/ability to learn PowerShell quickly)
  • Working knowledge of SQL (querying, joins, basic data modeling; SQL Server experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn a complex software application quickly and translate business processes into structured, logical steps
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable digging into messy data or ambiguous processes to find the “why”
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly for documenting processes and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently once ramped up, while collaborating cross-functionally
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Ability to handle sensitive health information in accordance with HIPAA and company confidentiality policies

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days: Complete HSP onboarding and training, shadow key business workflows, and begin contributing to basic SQL reporting and small automation tasks under guidance.

6-12 Months: Independently manage automation and reporting projects, own documentation for HSP-related processes, and serve as a reliable point of contact for HSP questions across departments.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in healthcare, insurance, or TPA/benefits administration environments
  • Familiarity with HSP or similar claims administration/benefits platforms
  • Experience with EDI file processing (834, 837, 835, etc.)
  • Familiarity with automation/scheduling tools (e.g., VisualCron, Task Scheduler)
  • Experience with Excel/reporting automation
