Job description

  • Own end-to-end test coverage for the platform’s three core modules: Rights, Royalties, and Content - ensuring accuracy in financial calculations, rights conflict detection, and content delivery workflows.
  • Design and execute black-box test plans covering user flows, edge cases, boundary conditions, and negative testing across the platform UI and APIs.
  • Apply white-box testing techniques - reviewing code paths, writing and maintaining unit and integration tests - in close collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Write and maintain automated test suites in JavaScript using frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress.
  • Test REST API endpoints (FastAPI) for correctness, data integrity, and performance under real-world conditions.
  • Perform regression testing across releases and flag issues early through code review participation.
  • File detailed, reproducible bug reports and track them to resolution in collaboration with engineers and product leadership.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline test integration to support rapid, confident deployments.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a QA or SDET role on a SaaS product.
  • Strong instincts for functional testing, exploratory testing, user flow validation, and edge case identification (black-box testing).
  • Comfortable reading code, contributing to unit/integration test coverage, and collaborating with developers at the code level (white-box fundamentals).
  • Hands-on experience with test automation in JavaScript (Playwright, Cypress, or similar).
  • Experience testing REST APIs via Postman, pytest, or equivalent tooling.
  • Familiarity with MongoDB or complex data structures where accuracy is non-negotiable.
  • The right mindset: analytical, detail-obsessed, and proactive about finding problems before users do - someone who thrives in a startup environment.
  • Fluent enough in English to communicate clearly with the team in writing and video calls (B2+ level or equivalent professional experience).

Nice To Have

  • Experience in media, entertainment, rights management, or fintech - anywhere financial accuracy and data integrity are mission-critical.

About the Position

Distillery is looking for a QA Engineer to join one of our client’s teams and help ensure the quality of a platform that’s transforming an entire industry. This person will work across the full platform, applying both black-box and white-box testing methodologies to make sure every calculation, workflow, and integration performs exactly as promised.

The client simplifies today’s complex intellectual property rights, content, and royalties operations for the media industry. Its platform is already used by major organizations to manage hundreds of millions of film and TV rights and host petabytes of content, with its technology touching over 10% of all movies known to exist on IMDb.

It’s a diverse, highly collaborative team backed by top-tier venture funds and prominent investors. Even more junior team members quickly build the kind of influence and ownership typically reserved for seasoned staff, thanks to heavy mentorship and deep trust from day one - including full coverage of subscriptions for advanced AI coding tools like Cursor and Claude.
