Job description

The Doctors Company is seeking a Director of Data & AI Governance to join our team. This is a hybrid or remote opportunity depending on the final candidate’s location from the company’s offices.

The Director of Data & AI Governance leads enterprise Data and AI governance at the group level, ensuring trusted, secure, compliant, ethical, and business-aligned use of data and AI assets. This role embeds governance into data platforms, integration patterns, analytics products, and AI/ML lifecycles to enable reporting modernization, advanced analytics, and scalable AI adoption while managing risk and regulatory obligations., Enterprise Data & AI Governance Framework & Operating Model

  • Establish, integrate, and operationalize a unified enterprise data and AI governance framework, including policies, standards, decision rights, stewardship, and AI accountability models.
  • Embed governance controls into data platforms, pipelines, analytics products, and AI/ML development and deployment workflows.
  • Provide hands-on leadership in designing governance patterns that balance speed, innovation, and risk, and ensure clear ownership across data domains and AI use cases.

Enterprise Data & AI Strategy and Roadmap Ownership

  • Own and evolve the enterprise data and AI strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned to business strategy, reporting modernization, digital transformation, and AI-driven value creation.
  • Actively guide prioritization of data domains, analytics capabilities, and AI investments, articulating trade-offs across value, cost, scalability, and risk.
  • Partner with technology and business leaders to translate strategy into executable initiatives.

Data Quality, Metadata, Model Transparency, and Domain Ownership

  • Define and enforce measurable data quality standards and domain-based ownership models.
  • Drive implementation of metadata, lineage, and data discovery capabilities alongside AI model documentation, traceability, and explainability standards.
  • Ensure analytics and AI outputs are trusted, auditable, and fit for enterprise and regulatory use.

Risk, Compliance, and Responsible Data & AI Enablement

  • Ensure data and AI governance supports regulatory, privacy, security, and model risk requirements while enabling advanced analytics and AI adoption.
  • Define and operationalize principles and controls for responsible, ethical, and compliant AI, including bias management, model monitoring, and lifecycle oversight.
  • Partner closely with legal, compliance, risk, and security teams to align governance with enterprise risk posture.

Stakeholder Alignment, Adoption, and Change Management

  • Drive enterprise adoption of data and AI governance through executive influence, clear communication, and structured change management.
  • Act as a visible leader and practitioner, ensuring governance models are practical, understood, and embedded into day-to-day delivery.
  • Measure and continuously improve governance maturity and business outcomes.

Salary Range: $157,323 - $206,487. Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education. We consider factors such as specialized skills, depth of knowledge in the field, and educational background to ensure fair and competitive pay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or equivalent) preferred when combined with hands-on technology delivery and enterprise leadership experience.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in enterprise data, analytics, AI, or technology delivery roles, including director-level accountability.
  • Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale data governance and AI governance programs with measurable business outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms like Purview and Atlan, analytics ecosystems, and AI/ML lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience operating in regulated environments and partnering with legal, compliance, privacy, security, and risk stakeholders.
  • Strong executive communication, influence, and decision-making skills across business and technology leadership.
