Job description

Job Description: Information Networks are critical to modern warfare. This position plays a critical role in our nation’s defense through the operation, management and defense of the Air Force portion of the Department of Defense (DoD) Information Network. You will be a key player on our team, helping the Air Force attain the following desired effects in its management of the DoD Information Network (DoDIN):

  • Assured System and Network Availability that ensures uninterrupted availability and protection of system and network resources. This includes providing for graceful degradation, self-healing, fail-over, diversity and elimination of critical failure points.
  • Assured Information Protection of information in storage, at rest, while it is passing over networks, including from the time it is stored and catalogued until it is distributed to users, operators, and decision makers.
  • Assured Information Delivery of information to users, operators, and decision makers in a timely manner.

In this role, you will provide network administration and engineering solutions on all Service Delivery Point (SDP) routers and boundary switches, demonstrating a deep understanding of advanced network routing concepts and protocols. This is expected to include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following activities:

  • Administrating Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Border Gateway Protocol (iBGP/eBGP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and other advanced routing technologies.
  • Perform advanced networking techniques to solve complex requirements such as Traffic Engineering (TE), manual load-balancing/load-sharing, policy-based route manipulation, and Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) with Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) tunneling.
  • Administer iBGP Layer 3 VPN Mesh (VPNv4/VPNv6) routing accompanying Group Encrypted Transport.
  • Utilize Software Defined WAN and other intent-based solutions as deployed to manipulate network intent and behavior.
  • Configure and optimize Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches to maximize aggregation links and inter-VLAN routing.
  • Analyze network traffic for spikes and bandwidth hogging events and determine the origin of such traffic.
  • Support the development, testing, and implementation of solutions and best practice methodologies that enable the prioritization of uptime by implementing failover and high availability configurations with two-person integrity (TPI) ensuring maximum amount of uninterrupted network operations.
  • Support the essential tasks, Situational Awareness (SA), and Command and Control (C2) that comprise the operational framework that comprises NetOps.
  • Support the following essential NetOps tasks: DoDIN Enterprise Management (EM), DoDIN Network Defense (DoDNetD), and DoDIN Web Content Management.
  • Other network administration related tasks, as assigned.

Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Certification Requirements: Security+ or DoDD 8140 IAT-II equivalent; Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is required in any of the following areas: Collaboration, Data Center, Enterprise or Service Provider

Years of Experience: 7+ years of experience with installing, configuring, troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, and hardening routers, serial consoles, load balancers, and switches. Intermediate level understanding/experience with Enterprise network architectures and configurations to include Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Border Gateway Protocol (iBGP/eBGP), Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and other advanced routing technologies. A deep level of understanding/experience with enterprise level network architectures/configurations is required and Software Defined Networking (SDN) is desired.
