Job description
We are seeking a skilled Physical Security Systems Engineer to support the planning, design, and initial deployment phase of CCTV surveillance and access control systems across multiple DHS locations. The role will focus on infrastructure assessment, system sizing, and coordination with network and facilities teams to ensure scalable, secure, and efficient implementation., Conduct initial site assessments to estimate the number of CCTV cameras and access control devices required across all locations.
Define system sizing and architecture for CCTV servers, particularly for primary sites (Kenton and 8 East 3rd Street).
Design and recommend configurations for smaller deployments, including trailer-based environments (e.g., Streamvault workstation setups).
Apply capacity planning best practices, including a 10% buffer to account for evolving floor plans and infrastructure changes.
Collaborate with DHS Network team for cabling and switch port requirements.
Design and document end-to-end CCTV and access control system architecture.
Identify and specify required hardware components, including:
CCTV servers
Surveillance cameras
Access control card readers
Access control panels
Mercury controllers
CloudLink devices
Supporting backend infrastructure
Ensure seamless integration of all systems with the DHS identity and security platform (Genetec).
Coordinate with infrastructure teams to support additional server requirements, including HPE servers for SCCM and IDS environments.
Work with vendors (e.g., Vertiv) to design and size UPS systems to provide approximately 45 minutes of runtime for network and server infrastructure.
Prepare technical documentation, diagrams, and deployment plans.
Provide recommendations for scalability, reliability, and security best practices.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in physical security systems (CCTV and access control).
Hands-on experience with video management systems, preferably Genetec.
Strong knowledge of access control systems, including Mercury controllers and related hardware.
Experience with server sizing, infrastructure planning, and hardware specification.
Familiarity with network infrastructure concepts (switching, cabling coordination).
Experience working with UPS systems and power backup planning.
Ability to interpret architectural drawings and adapt to evolving floor plans.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with government or public sector clients (especially DHS environments).
Knowledge of HPE server environments, SCCM, and IDS systems.
Experience with Streamvault or similar security appliances.
Vendor coordination experience (e.g., Vertiv for UPS systems).
Relevant certifications in security systems or networking.
