Job description
We are seeking a Systems Engineer II to support the development of a virtual crew drill trainer software application that simulates a tactical missile system in a first-person 3D environment built in Unreal Engine. This role is ideal for individuals with strong problem-solving skills and a foundational understanding of software or electromechanical systems. You will work as an individual contributor within a multidisciplinary scrum team, collaborating with tactical system Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and adhering to contract deliverable formats and standards. The position offers opportunities to learn new skills, grow professionally, and gain exposure to project and program management.
What You Will Do
- Research tactical system concepts using schematics, functional block diagrams, system data, parts lists, CAD drawings, and technical manuals.
- Generate requirements documents to guide software engineers in developing training scenarios within existing applications.
- Collaborate with software engineers throughout implementation.
- Conduct software testing against established requirements.
- Document, track, and support resolution of software defects.
- Work in a fast-paced environment that demands accuracy and attention to detail.
- Travel occasionally (up to 10%) domestically and internationally to support customer test events, data collection, and development of foreign military partnerships.
Requirements
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance, * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience with software and/or electromechanical systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Products.
Qualifications we prefer:
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with core engineering principles and systems engineering lifecycle concepts.
- Analytical, problem-solving mindset with experience in requirements generation and configuration management.
- Exposure to Agile methodologies, including scrum practices.
- Understanding of object-oriented design, basic coding concepts, and simulation or radar system fundamentals; familiarity with technical manuals and military procedures is ideal.
Benefits & conditions
The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
