Job description
The Senior Systems Engineer will play a critical role in architecting, delivering, and maintaining enterprise-scale server, storage, virtualization, automation, and cloud solutions. The candidate will be responsible for driving ongoing modernization across a highly virtualized and hybrid cloud environment, with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Policy as Code practices. The role also involves providing Tier 3 support, technical leadership, and driving process improvement through automation and best practices. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, implementing, and administering enterprise server and storage solutions while ensuring security, compliance, and architectural best practices.
- Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code leveraging tools such as Terraform, Vault, Packer, and Puppet.
- Supporting enterprise-wide endpoint and systems management initiatives.
- Participating in the evaluation and modernization of virtualization platforms.
- Analyzing infrastructure utilization for capacity planning and supporting future growth initiatives, including migration of workloads to cloud platforms.
- Collaborating with IT leadership, development teams, and third-party vendors in designing scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Creating and updating technical documentation and operational procedures for infrastructure management.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on enterprise infrastructure technologies and leading project efforts.
- Owning and resolving escalated Tier 3 infrastructure incidents from diagnosis to resolution.
- Proactively identifying and developing automation opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and minimize repetitive support requests.
- Providing mentoring, knowledge sharing, and technical training to peers and other stakeholders.
- Contributing to infrastructure architecture decisions and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, candidates should demonstrate an advanced technical background, a collaborative approach, and a strong drive for modernization and automation. Required and preferred skills and experience include:
- 4 to 6 years of hands-on experience administering server, storage, and network infrastructure in a complex enterprise environment.
- Solid proficiency with Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code using modern platforms such as Terraform, Vault, Packer, or similar.
- Experience with configuration management solutions (Puppet, Ansible, or Chef).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and IIS administration.
- Administration experience with VMware virtualization platforms and related tooling.
- Familiarity with SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel storage technologies, and core networking concepts.
- Comprehensive understanding of server hardware, backup/recovery processes, and infrastructure security fundamentals.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team within a collaborative environment.
- Experience supporting large-scale endpoint management platforms (such as Tanium) is a plus.
- Scripting and automation capability with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Perl (preferred).
- Practical experience designing or supporting hybrid cloud architectures using Microsoft Azure is highly valued.
- Hands-on exposure to Nutanix platforms or other hyperconverged infrastructure is preferred.
- Industry certifications such as HashiCorp, VMware, Microsoft Azure, ITIL, or PMP are considered advantageous.
- Familiarity with technologies including Citrix, SQL Server, Microsoft System Center, VDI, MDM, UNIX/Linux systems, or legacy infrastructure is beneficial.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering or related IT infrastructure roles.
