Job description
| The Senior Geospatial Information Sys Specialist (BIM + ArcGIS Indoors) is employed by Ayoroa | Simmons and works in close partnership with our Government client to design, implement, and sustain enterprise geospatial solutions. |
This role serves as a technical expert and project lead for:
- Integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) data into the agency’s GIS environment
- Standing up and/or expanding Esri ArcGIS Indoors for indoor mapping, wayfinding, and space management
- Providing leadership and mentoring to other GIS professionals and power users across the client organization
The ideal candidate is a senior-level GIS professional comfortable working with facilities, engineering, and operations teams, translating their needs into practical GIS/BIM solutions., 1. GIS & Enterprise Data Management
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise GIS datasets, services, and data models to support facility and campus operations.
- Perform advanced spatial analysis, mapping, and visualization to support planning, maintenance, safety, and capital investment decisions.
- Establish and enforce data standards, metadata, and QA/QC procedures to ensure data integrity and consistency across systems.
- Publish and manage map and feature services in ArcGIS Enterprise/Online for use in web and mobile applications.

BIM & ArcGIS Indoors Integration * Lead the integration of BIM and CAD sources (e.g., Revit models, CAD floor plans, IFC/COBie exports) into GIS, ensuring accurate representation of building geometry, spaces, and assets. * Design and maintain the ArcGIS Indoors information model, including Sites, Facilities, Levels, Units, Zones, and points of interest for [campus / portfolio name]. * Configure and manage ArcGIS Indoors web & mobile applications (e.g., Indoors, Viewer, Mobile) to support wayfinding, space utilization, asset mapping, and operations workflows. * Develop and maintain ETL pipelines and geoprocessing workflows (e.g., Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, FME) to regularly transform BIM/CAD updates into the Indoors/GIS environment. * Collaborate closely with the Ayoroa | Simmons BIM team and client-side facilities/engineering staff to ensure BIM-GIS alignment from design through operations.

Leadership, Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement * Serve as project lead for complex GIS/BIM/Indoors initiatives: gathering requirements, developing work plans, coordinating tasks, and tracking schedule and deliverables. * Mentor and guide junior GIS staff and client-side power users; review their work for accuracy, quality, and adherence to standards. * Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one coaching to build GIS and ArcGIS Indoors literacy across the client organization. * Act as a trusted advisor to client leadership, clearly communicating geospatial capabilities, constraints, and options in non-technical terms. * Coordinate with client IT, security, facilities, operations, and other contractors to ensure that geospatial solutions integrate smoothly with enterprise systems and comply with agency policies.

Compliance, Documentation & Continuous Improvement * Ensure that GIS, BIM, and ArcGIS Indoors solutions comply with applicable Government policies and standards, including information security, privacy, and records management. * Prepare and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration guides, and data dictionaries. * Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation, recommending new tools, techniques, or configurations that add value for the client. * Support Ayoroa | Simmons leadership with level-of-effort estimates, scope definition, and reporting related to GIS/BIM/Indoors work for the client., * Leading the design and rollout (or expansion) of ArcGIS Indoors for at least one major facility or campus, from data model through app deployment. * Implementing reliable, repeatable workflows for transforming BIM/CAD updates into current indoor GIS datasets and services. * Delivering clear, actionable maps, apps, and dashboards that stakeholders actually use for daily operations and planning. * Coaching other staff so that the overall GIS/BIM capability of the client organization is measurably stronger.

Must meet all Government and Ayoroa Simmons security, conduct, and compliance requirements, which includes background checks, training, and adherence to specific facility rules. - Occasional travel may be required to client sites, campuses, or project locations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of professional GIS experience, including:
- Hands-on work with Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise/Online
- Managing and publishing enterprise geospatial datasets and services
- Delivering GIS solutions in a multi-stakeholder environment (e.g., Government, utilities, campuses, or large facilities)
- Demonstrated experience integrating BIM/CAD data into GIS, such as:
- Converting Revit or CAD floor plans into GIS feature classes
- Working with 2D and 3D building or facility datasets
- Experience designing or managing facility or building-level geospatial data, including floor plans, rooms, and interior assets.
- Proficiency with Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder, or similar tools to automate geospatial workflows and data pipelines.
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others-this can include informal leadership, task direction, or review of work products.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical topics into clear business language for non-GIS stakeholders.
- Eligibility to work on Government contracts, including the ability to obtain and maintain any required background investigation or clearance and comply with client facility and security requirements., * Master’s degree in a GIS- or AEC-related discipline (e.g., Geography, GIS, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning).
- Direct, hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS Indoors (configuration, data model, app deployment) OR a clearly demonstrated interest plus strong relevant skills (e.g., prior indoor mapping, campus/facilities GIS).
- Experience working on federal Government projects as a civil servant or contractor.
- Familiarity with BIM tools and standards, such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, IFC, and/or COBie.
- Experience with 3D GIS (e.g., scenes, multipatch features, 3D analysis) and integrating 3D building models into GIS.
- Knowledge of facility management, asset management, or space planning processes in large campus or portfolio environments.
- Experience with cloud environments and databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure/AWS-hosted GIS solutions).
