Job description

The Defense Sector at Leidos is currently seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support multiple agile development teams building and deploying Java, JavaScript, and Rust-based applications across cloud, on-premise, and edge environments. This role focuses on enabling secure, reliable, and automated software delivery while improving developer productivity and system resiliency.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing CI/CD pipelines, managing hybrid infrastructure, and partnering closely with software engineers in fast-paced, iterative development environments.

This position does allow the ability to telework, but the chosen candidate must be within a reasonable driving distance to either Arlington, VA or Alexandria, VA. In addition, the chosen candidate must be able to be on site when asked., * Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting Java, JavaScript, and Rust applications

  • Support Agile development teams by automating build, test, deployment, and release processes
  • Deploy and manage applications across cloud, on-premise, and edge computing environments
  • Build and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
  • Maintain and optimize containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (or equivalent orchestration platforms)
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure system availability and performance
  • Collaborate with security teams to integrate DevSecOps practices into pipelines and infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot deployment, infrastructure, and performance issues across distributed environments
  • Improve system reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency through automation and best practices
  • Contribute to documentation, standards, and operational playbooks

Requirements

  • US Citizen with at least an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain an SCI prior to your start date
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 8+ years of professional experience or a Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong experience supporting agile or Scrum-based development teams
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications written in Java, JavaScript, and/or Rust
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and system administration
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes or similar)
  • Experience managing hybrid environments (cloud + on-premise)
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with developers, QA, and security teams, * Experience supporting C2, distributed systems, or mission-critical platforms
  • Familiarity with edge computing or resource-constrained deployments
  • Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of zero trust, secure build pipelines, and compliance-driven environments
  • Experience with service mesh, GitOps, or platform engineering practices
  • Exposure to performance testing and capacity planning
