Job description

We are seeking a Director of Technology to lead a business-critical IBM mainframe environment and a blended team of U.S.-based and offshore technology professionals., This role requires a strong people leader who has worked directly with IBM mainframe systems and COBOL development. The Director will be responsible for platform stability, team performance, enterprise integrations, major data conversions, and long-term modernization., * Lead an onshore and offshore team of COBOL developers, engineers, architects, and analysts.

  • Oversee the stability, scalability, security, and performance of critical mainframe applications.
  • Develop a technology roadmap that balances daily delivery with modernization.
  • Lead platform conversions, data migrations, acquisitions, and complex system integrations.
  • Guide integrations involving APIs, batch processing, distributed systems, and downstream applications.
  • Reduce technical debt and introduce modern engineering, automation, cloud, and DevOps practices.
  • Partner with business leaders, project teams, vendors, risk, compliance, and executive stakeholders.
  • Mentor employees and expand the team’s capabilities beyond traditional mainframe technologies.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive technology experience.
  • 7+ years of technology leadership or team-management experience.
  • Strong IBM mainframe and COBOL development background.
  • Experience managing technical teams, including offshore or third-party resources.
  • Experience supporting high-volume, high-availability, or business-critical systems.
  • Knowledge of APIs, integrations, batch processing, and data conversions.
  • Strong communication and organizational leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Mergers, acquisitions, core conversions, or large-scale data migrations.
  • Mainframe modernization and hybrid architecture strategies.
  • Banking, insurance, financial services, healthcare, government, or another regulated industry.
  • Cloud platforms, CI/CD, DevOps, automation, and agile delivery.

  • Base salary: $185,000-$195,000
