Job description
The post holder will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support within Development Management service, including Planning, Local Land Charges, Building Control, Planning Enforcement and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)., * Checking the validity of planning, building control and local land charges applications
- Preparation and dispatch of decision notices for planning and building control applications
- Maintaining accurate property records for all applications
- Processing planning and enforcement appeals
- To provide technical advice to customers on all Development Management issues, via the phone, email or in person.
- To receipt all payments received by the department

Watford Borough Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). If you are employed by Watford Borough Council on 1 April 2028, it is expected that the majority of roles will transfer to the newly-created unitary councils on existing terms and conditions under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings - Protection of Employment) principles.
Requirements
- To have a basic understanding of the processes and legislation relating to planning and building control applications.
- Ability to read and interpret plans
- The ability to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills
- The ability to deal with and respond to the needs of a diverse range of internal and external customers.
- An effective team member with the ability to work towards and achieve team goals and outcomes
- Ability to multi-task, deal with changing priorities or workload and meet deadlines
- To have an incisive and practical approach to problem solving including the ability to know when to make a decision individually and when to seek assistance
- Experience of following office procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency within a performance focused environment
- Experience of explaining complex processes to customers not familiar with the subject matter
- To acquire knowledge and skills keep up to date with changes to legislation
- To have a high level of computer literacy as, regular use of Microsoft office suite including outlook, word and excel and detailed working knowledge of uniform, total land charges, Exacom and GIS
