Job description

This full-time, on-site Junior Guard Design Engineer role is based in the Greater Leicester Area. The successful candidate will focus primarily on the design of machine guarding and safety enclosures for mining and metals equipment, working alongside senior engineers to develop solutions that protect personnel while maintaining equipment accessibility and performance. MES is a fast-growing business through our bespoke Guards manufactured in house at our ever-improving manufacturing facility, this role will be focused on meeting this design demand and improving our current product offering.Typical responsibilities include creating and updating CAD and 3D models for guards and safety enclosures, assisting with technical drawings and specifications, and supporting the review of guard designs against safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The role involves working closely with production and maintenance teams to identify guarding requirements, resolve design issues, and support improvements to existing guarding solutions. The Junior Guard Design Engineer will participate in project meetings, maintain accurate design records, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes.This is an excellent entry point for someone starting their design engineering career - full training and mentoring will be provided, with senior engineers supporting your development throughout.

Requirements

  • No previous design experience required - full training will be provided.
  • A general interest in or basic understanding of engineering principles is beneficial, though not essential.
  • Willingness to learn Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for creating and managing technical drawings and models (training provided if not already familiar).
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to following instructions and established procedures.
  • Good problem-solving instincts and a willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work safely in an industrial, on-site environment.
  • A relevant technical qualification (e.g. in Engineering, Design, or a related field) is desirable but not mandatory - candidates with a strong aptitude and enthusiasm for engineering are encouraged to apply.
  • Any prior exposure to CAD, workshops, or manufacturing environments (including through coursework, hobbies, or internships) is a plus but not required
