Requirements

  • GCSE’s including Maths and English grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) or relevant experience in a similar role, * ECDL / ICDL or strong proficiency in Microsoft office suite

  • Working towards a higher level qualification in an IT related subject

The New GCSE Grading System

  • Grades 7-9 are equivalent to the old grades A and A*.

  • The bottom of grade 7 aligns with the bottom of grade A.

  • Grades 4-6 are equivalent to the old grades B and C.

  • The bottom of grade 4 aligns with the bottom of grade C, * Ability to contribute to the development of policies and processes and to support in advising internal and external colleagues, both orally and in report form

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems or Database Management /Systems Management

  • Experience working within a Street Works, Highway, Planning or Local Government IT role

  • Experience of working with systems suppliers
  • Experience in developing new processes, functions and systems
  • Working knowledge of the West and Shires Permit Scheme
  • Working knowledge of the Code of Practice for the Co-ordination of Street Works and Road Works

  • Working Knowledge of the Code of Practice for Street Works Inspections

Specialist skills and abilities

Method of Assessment - D, I

Essential:

  • High level of computer literacy including software related databases, spread sheets and word documents

  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to organise conflicting workload and manage time effectively
  • High level of attention to detail and able to identify and challenge inaccuracies

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with the National Street Gazetteer, particularly the Associated Street Data and the National Underground Asset Register

  • Experience in using IDOX software
  • Experience in using Street Manager or associated API systems, * Ability to consistently achieve set targets as a key member of an integrated team working towards common objectives

  • Need to be an effective communicator both written and verbal with ability to take accurate notes

  • Capable of reading, working with and interpreting legislation, policy documents and process maps

  • Ability to work both under instruction as directed, and to apply initiative and work as a self-motivated individual

  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels, using initiative and working as part of a team

  • Ability to manage workload in a high demand and time sensitive environment
  • Ability to think innovatively to solve problems.

Special working conditions, * Ability to work flexibly to support planning and operational needs with the requirement to attend your primary work base a minimum of 2 days per week

  • Able to work flexibly between 7am - 7pm Monday - Friday and 8am -1pm Saturday. Occasional evening/night/weekend work may be required.

  • During a Pandemic, Epidemic or Major Incident or Emergency you may be asked to work from home or other location and on occasion to undertake duties that are not stated in your Job Description or Person Specification where there is a skill, competency, and experience match
