Job description
DecisionPoint seeks a Database Administrator (SQL/MySQL) to support daily database operations, maintenance, security, and optimization for a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role ensures the reliability and performance of SQL and MySQL database platforms across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
The SQL/MySQL DBA is responsible for managing maintenance plans, backups, monitoring, schema updates, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting database issues that impact enterprise applications and data workflows.
This position is fully remote., The SQL/MySQL Database Administrator will: Perform routine SQL and MySQL database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization.

Implement maintenance plans, database job schedules, and automated housekeeping routines.

Execute backup and recovery operations, ensuring successful validation and integrity of stored data.

Apply patches, minor version upgrades, and configuration changes in accordance with change control practices.

Manage schema updates, indexing improvements, table maintenance, and performance tuning.

Troubleshoot query bottlenecks, connection issues, performance degradation, and system errors.

Support RMF and DoD cybersecurity requirements across SQL and MySQL database platforms.

Maintain database documentation, configuration baselines, and operational runbooks.

Collaborate with developers to optimize database queries, stored procedures, and integration workflows.

Work alongside cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and implement STIG compliance.

Support refreshes, deployments, data migrations, and environment synchronization activities.

Provide recommendations to improve database efficiency, storage use, and overall performance.
Requirements
Clearance Requirement
Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.
Education (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, or a related technical field.
Experience (Required)
-
Minimum 5 years of experience administering SQL and/or MySQL databases.

Experience with database maintenance, tuning, monitoring, and patching.
-
Experience supporting databases in development, test, staging, and production environments.

Experience troubleshooting indexing, schema issues, and performance bottlenecks.

Experience applying DoD cybersecurity and RMF-related security controls.
Technical Knowledge (Required)
-
Strong expertise with SQL Server and/or MySQL database platforms.

Proficiency in SQL scripting, query optimization, and performance tuning.

Knowledge of encryption, auditing, access control, and DoD security settings.
-
Familiarity with database backup and recovery tools and methodologies.

Experience with monitoring and performance analytics frameworks.
Technical Knowledge (Preferred)

Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational database systems.

Experience with IL5 cloud-hosted database services.

Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and automated database deployments.
Certifications
Required:

CompTIA Security+
-
SQL or MySQL vendor certification (e.g., Microsoft SQL Certification, MySQL DBA Certification)
Preferred:

AWS Database Specialty
-
CISSP or CCSP
Skills
