Job description

The Information Technology Specialist provides comprehensive IT leadership and technical expertise in support of the U.S. Department of War’s mission to develop advanced weapon systems for the U.S. Military.

This position is responsible for managing and securing the enterprise IT infrastructure, overseeing helpdesk operations, and ensuring reliable, compliant, and secure network services across all supported environments.

The incumbent plays a critical role in safeguarding sensitive defense systems and maintaining operational readiness through strategic IT management, cybersecurity compliance, and enterprise network administration., Enterprise IT Management

  • Lead the administration, configuration, and maintenance of the organization’s enterprise network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls, servers, storage, cloud integrations).
  • Ensure high availability, performance optimization, and scalability of IT systems supporting weapon systems development programs.
  • Develop and enforce IT governance policies, procedures, and best practices in accordance with federal and DoW standards.
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and lifecycle planning for hardware and software assets.
  • Oversee cybersecurity controls and ensure compliance with applicable federal security frameworks. Helpdesk & End-User Support

  • Manage and supervise helpdesk operations, including ticketing systems, service-level agreements (SLAs), and performance metrics.
  • Provide Tier II/III technical support and escalation management.
  • Establish knowledge management practices to improve service efficiency and user satisfaction.
  • Train and mentor IT support personnel.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain security protocols aligned with Department of Defense cybersecurity requirements.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and remediation planning.
  • Ensure compliance with federal information security standards and accreditation processes.
  • Support audits and security reviews.

Project & Systems Support

  • Collaborate with engineering and program teams to ensure IT systems effectively support weapon system development environments.
  • Participate in classified and sensitive systems planning.
  • Lead IT-related projects including infrastructure modernization, migration initiatives, and security enhancements.

Vendor & Asset Management

  • Manage IT procurement, vendor relationships, licensing agreements, and maintenance contracts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network architecture, configurations, and inventory., This position operates in a secure government facility environment supporting mission-critical defense programs. The role requires on-site presence (40 hrs per week) and adherence to strict security protocols.

Requirements

  • Active SECRET security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT administration and network management.
  • Current Security+ certification.
  • Demonstrated experience managing helpdesk operations within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of: o Enterprise network architecture and administration o Windows/Linux server environments o Virtualization platforms o Cybersecurity frameworks and compliance requirements o Backup, disaster recovery, and continuity planning

  • Experience supporting secure or government-regulated environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance., * Prior experience supporting Department of Defense or federal government programs.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, Network+, CCNA/CCNP, ITIL).
  • Experience with secure development environments and classified systems.
  • Familiarity with risk management frameworks and accreditation processes.
