Job description

The AV and Technical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless technical execution of our school’s vibrant campus life. This hybrid role divides time between managing audio-visual (AV) setups for school events (assemblies, presentations, performances, livestreams) and providing tier-1 technical support to our lean IT department.

Reporting to the Director of IT, the ideal candidate is highly reliable, customer- oriented, and possesses the scheduling flexibility required to accommodate a school calendar’s peak event seasons.

This is a part-time position. The hours are no more than 20 hours per week, not exceeding 900 hours per year. The schedule includes a mix of daytime hours, evening events, and occasional weekends based on the school calendar., * Live Operations: Run soundboards and video projections. Set up and test PA systems, microphones, projectors, laptops, and staging equipment for assemblies, guest speakers, and school live events, ensuring high-quality audio levels and smooth visual transitions.

  • Video & Livestreaming: Manage basic video recording and multi-camera livestreaming setups for school events, graduations, or athletic games (e.g., using platforms like OBS, YouTube Live, or automated sports cameras).
  • AV Troubleshooting: Serve as the immediate, on-site technical contact to handle real-time AV glitches during high-stakes presentations. Event AV & Media Support (Approx. 60%)

  • Video & Livestreaming: Manage basic video recording and multi-camera livestreaming setups for school events, graduations, or athletic games (e.g., using platforms like OBS, YouTube Live, or automated sports cameras).
  • AV Troubleshooting: Serve as the immediate, on-site technical contact to handle real-time AV glitches during high-stakes presentations.

Requirements

  • Technical Aptitude: Proven experience setting up and operating live sound systems (mixers, wireless mics) and digital projectors. Basic familiarity with video cameras and web-streaming platforms.
  • Basic IT Literacy: Comfortable with Mac, Windows, and Google Workspace ecosystems. Basic knowledge of computer hardware and connecting devices to a network.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Crucial. Must have a schedule that allows for split shifts or variable hours (e.g., working a 2-hour morning assembly, followed by an evening sports stream or weekend theater performance). Event schedules are provided well in advance.
  • Reliability & Professionalism: High level of accountability, punctuality, and a calm demeanor under pressure. Excellent communication skills suitable for a 9-12 educational environment.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift and move AV equipment up to 50 lbs, climb short ladders, and run cables safely across event spaces.

B.A./B.S. is preferred; Must be able to work collegially, be committed to working in a diverse community, have experience working and communicating with diverse populations; enjoy working with young people in a boarding school environment; and must have a valid driver’s license.

Benefits & conditions

$24.00 - $27.00 per hour. Please note that the quoted salary range is not a guarantee of what the final salary offer might be. Variables include years of work experience, industry-specific experience, education level, etc.
