In this role, you will design bespoke electrical interconnects and cable assemblies capable of transmitting power, signal, and high-speed data across intricate subsystems. From interpreting high-level subsystem requirements to producing 2D manufacturing drawings on Visio & HarnWare, you will play a central role across the complete design lifecycle-supporting everything from initial research and ideation to prototype build, environmental trials, and final manufacturing hand-off.What You Will Be Doing

  • Translate complex subsystem requirements into clear electrical schematics, wire topologies, and detailed 2D cable assembly definitions using MS Visio and HarnWare.
  • Lead investigations into cable and interconnect issues, developing robust design solutions both independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate directly with production teams to resolve manufacturing queries, while supporting functional and environmental product testing/trials.
  • Manage product data, revision controls, and change processes using Windchill (or similar PDM/PLM systems).
  • Engage with internal engineering teams, production units, and external suppliers to streamline harness assembly and deliver on-time work packages.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience:Education: Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline (backed by significant hands-on harness design experience).

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience using MS Visio and HarnWare to generate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Solid understanding of electrical constraints including current carrying capacity, voltage drop, signal types, screening, EMC, and environmental factors.
  • Proven experience working within PDM/PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) for configuration and change control.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead design work packages, write clear technical documentation, and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

  • Familiarity with military Defence Standards (Def-Stans).
  • Practical knowledge and application of MIL-DTL-38999 (D38999) connectors in cable harness manufacturing.
  • An appreciation of cable assembly production processes, DFM principles, and supplier engagement.
