Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with clear evidence of owning features and components end to end within a team
  • Solid foundation in the JVM (Java and Kotlin)
  • Frontend experience (React, TypeScript, Node.js) is a strong plus. We work full-stack, and we expect engineers to pick up frontend work quickly where the role calls for it.
  • Production experience with event-driven systems; hands-on experience with Kafka is a strong plus
  • Working command of distributed systems fundamentals: idempotency, at-least-once vs exactly-once tradeoffs, schema evolution, partitioning
  • Comfortable applying common patterns (event-driven, API gateways) and a developing sense of when not to
  • Sound database judgment with relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational stores, including data modelling and query performance
  • A track record of delivering features and components to production reliably, with appropriate unit, ntegration, and end-to-end testing
  • Able to manage your own delivery: estimating work, sequencing it, raising delivery risks early, and resolving cross-team technical dependencies
  • Comfortable owning system design at team scope: producing designs during refinement using the C4 model, keeping them current, and aligning them with a domain target architecture
  • Familiar with how engineering delivery is measured (e.g. DORA metrics, stability, SSDLC compliance, velocity and predictability) and able to keep your own work healthy against it
  • Effective use of AI coding tools in your daily workflow. We use Claude Code; experience with similar tools (OpenAI Codex, opencode, Cursor and others) is fully transferable
  • Familiarity with cloud service providers, ideally Azure
  • Comfortable with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)

Benefits & conditions

  • A unique opportunity combining the energy of a start-up with the power of BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mobility and bp
  • Working on products and services with a high social impact
  • An international team of talented people who love what they do and live a collaborative spirit
  • An open-minded culture with room for growth and the freedom to bring in your own ideas
  • Subsidized gym membership, subsidized office lunch benefit, a personal development budget for your professional growth, monthly mobility budget, offsite and team events and much more
  • Modern, sunny offices in Berlin and Munich
  • Up to 3 days of home office a week

… and of course the classics: delicious coffee and tea, fresh fruits, and an office-dog-friendly environment

About the company

Our engineering domains at DCS build and operate the platform that powers EV charging for some of the world’s largest automotive and mobility brands. As a Software Engineer you sit at the centre of how a team turns defined problems into reliable, production-grade software, and you are one of the people the platform runs on day to day, At DCS, we develop public charging solutions. Our solutions, in the form of an app or in the head unit of the car, provide access to multiple networks of Charge Point Operators (CPO) and enable drivers of electric vehicles to find, use and pay for charging in an easy and seamless way. Therefore, by providing this service, we are a key player in the change to electromobility.

Since the beginning of 2019, we are a part of the mobility joint venture between BMW Group and Mercedes Benz Mobility. In 2021, bp joined as the third shareholder.

CHARGE NOW is one of our services.
