Job description
The IT Support Technician will provide technology support across UCM’s offices, plants, and jobsites, assisting employees with computers, mobile devices, software systems, and other technology needs. This individual will work closely with experienced IT team members to learn UCM’s systems, infrastructure, and technology processes while growing within the IT department.
A background in construction, civil construction, field operations, or other hands-on environments is highly valued because this role supports the people and technology that keep our projects moving. If you enjoy learning new technology, troubleshooting issues, and helping others, this could be an excellent opportunity to transition your construction experience into a career in IT., * Provide technical support for end users across multiple UCM locations, plants, and jobsites.
- Set up, configure, and troubleshoot company iPhones, iPads, laptops, and desktop computers.
- Manage mobile devices using Verizon MDM and Verizon One Talk platforms.
- Assist with Microsoft 365 administration, user accounts, and Active Directory support.
- Provide remote support.
- Assist with networking, VPN connectivity, firewall support, and general infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Support Apple-based devices and environments across the company.
- Help maintain and monitor systems using PDQ Deploy, Fortinet/FortiGate products, and endpoint management tools.
- Assist with server support and virtualization environments using VMware.
- Support company software platforms including Viewpoint/Vista, HCSS, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, Azteca Systems, Command Batch, FleetWatcher, and related operational software.
- Travel between office locations, asphalt plants, concrete plants, and jobsites as needed to provide onsite support.
- Document IT procedures, troubleshooting steps, and system updates when possible.
- Assist with seasonal technology setup and support for field operations and plant startup activities.
- Work closely with senior IT staff to learn systems, processes, and long-term infrastructure management responsibilities.
- Follow company safety procedures and maintain professionalism while supporting field and office personnel.

United Contractors Midwest (UCM) is looking for a motivated, dependable individual who understands the construction environment and is interested in building a long-term career in Information Technology. This role is a great opportunity for someone with hands-on construction experience, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn - even if your career path has not traditionally been in IT., * Background in general construction, civil construction, field operations, or a related hands-on environment preferred.
- Strong interest in technology and desire to build a long-term career in Information Technology.
- Previous experience troubleshooting computers, mobile devices, software, equipment, or other technical issues is a plus.
- Ability to learn new technology systems and software platforms quickly.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to take ownership of issues and find solutions.
- Experience supporting users, coworkers, customers, or field personnel with technical needs is preferred.
- Comfortable working with employees in office, plant, and construction jobsite environments.
- Basic understanding of computers, hardware, mobile devices, networking concepts, or Microsoft applications is helpful.
- Experience with Apple devices, iPads, mobile technology, or device management platforms is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, remote support tools, or other IT systems is beneficial but not required.
- Experience with construction technology platforms such as Viewpoint/Vista, HCSS, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, or similar systems is a plus.
- Formal IT education, certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, etc.), or prior IT experience are helpful but not required.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with the IT team.
