Job description

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking an exceptional, highly motivated candidate for a Systems Administrator (Infrastructure Specialist 4) position within our Information Technology Services section. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St. Columbus, OH. The successful candidate will perform the following duties, which include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of DBAs by providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to enhance their technical skills and professional growth.
  • Assign tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of database-related projects and operations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for database-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, such as database maintenance, backups, or performance monitoring, to improve team efficiency.
  • Anticipate potential risks to database systems (e.g., security vulnerabilities, capacity issues) and take preemptive measures to mitigate them before they become critical problems.
  • Monitor system health and performance by conducting regular checks, analyzing metrics, and addressing issues to ensure optimal database functionality, availability, and reliability.

Prepare, test, and validate deployment scripts to ensure accuracy, compliance with standards, and rollback readiness.

  • Oversee deployment execution, validate post-deployment success, and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Perform backups, restores, disaster recovery planning, and high-availability\ configurations for critical systems
  • Manage and maintain SQL Server databases including installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
  • Develop ETL processes using tools like SSIS to integrate data from various sources into enterprise repositories
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues in real-time and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurrence
  • Collaborate with external vendors and contractors to ensure service delivery, contract compliance, and issue resolution.
  • Stay updated on emerging database technologies

Requirements

Completion of undergraduate core program or associate degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, or related field, or equivalent work experience, and minimum 8 yrs. combined work experience in network, database, server, or storage administration.

  • Or 2 years of exp. as an Infrastructure Specialist 3;

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Preferred Qualifications: Technical Skills: Database Architecture & Optimization Scripting Automation Backup & Recovery Performance Tuning Data Security & High Availability Troubleshooting

Storage and VDI experience
