Job description

I’m working with a growing technology business looking for a Lead AI Engineer to help shape and grow its AI capability. They’re looking for a hands-on AI professional with strong computer vision experience who enjoys building and deploying real-world AI solutions. This role would suit someone operating at a senior level, or an existing lead, who wants to take ownership, mentor others, influence technical direction, and progress into a broader leadership position as the team grows. You’ll work closely with product and engineering teams on cutting-edge AI, computer vision, and intelligent automation initiatives within a fast-paced, startup environment. What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and deploy production AI and computer vision models.
  • Develop solutions across image recognition, classification, labelling, and visual analysis.
  • Build and optimise LLM and VLM-powered applications.
  • Deliver AI solutions across cloud, mobile, and edge environments.
  • Build production-grade Python services and APIs.
  • Ensure AI solutions are explainable, scalable, and reliable.
  • Mentor a junior AI engineer and contribute to technical direction and best practice.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to identify and deliver high-value AI opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience developing and deploying AI solutions.
  • Proven computer vision experience (essential).
  • Strong Python engineering skills.
  • Experience with image-based models, LLMs, VLMs, and model optimisation techniques.
  • Exposure to MLOps and modern AI deployment practices.
  • Experience with edge AI and/or mobile AI solutions is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to iOS/mobile development would be advantageous.
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to balance innovation with delivery.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge, influence, and take ownership.

Benefits & conditions

  • Opportunity to shape AI strategy and capability within a growing business.
  • Work on cutting-edge AI and computer vision products solving real-world challenges.
  • Fully remote working.
  • Share options following probation.
  • Clear progression into broader AI leadership as the company scales.
