Job description

The Core Infrastructure Engineering Team owns and operates the foundational services that G-Research engineers rely on every day, from infrastructure automation and CI tooling to the platforms that keep the business running.

As a Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the reliability, evolution and day-to-day operation of these critical services. You will ensure they are scalable, well-automated and meet the needs of a demanding engineering organisation.

You will bring solid infrastructure experience across Windows and Linux environments, a pragmatic approach to automation and a genuine sense of ownership for the services you support.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Owning and operating Terraform Enterprise appliance, including upgrades, availability, backups and user support
  • Managing and evolving Active Directory, Windows Bastion Hosts and inventory
  • Maintaining and improving Jenkins CI infrastructure
  • Automating service provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management
  • Ensuring services are monitored, documented and recoverable
  • Collaborating with platform and application teams to deliver infrastructure solutions
  • Participating in the out-of-hours on-call rotation

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience operating and automating infrastructure services in an enterprise environment
  • Experience across Windows and Linux environments, including Windows Server and Active Directory administration
  • Strong infrastructure as code skills, with an interest in AI-driven infrastructure management
  • Experience with Jenkins pipeline management and administration
  • Scripting experience in PowerShell, Python or both
  • Experience managing self-hosted application platforms, including upgrades, patching and monitoring
  • Proven experience owning services end to end, including deployment, monitoring, incident response and improvement

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with inventory or CMDB platforms, Terraform or HCL literacy, certificate management, Kubernetes and Linux desktop support
