Job description

As a Senior Pharmacy Support Worker (Primary Care), you will play a vital role in supporting NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Primary Care Pharmacotherapy Services to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines.

Working alongside pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, you will undertake a range of routine and technical tasks to support medication management within GP practices.

You will coordinate the collection and analysis of information, update patient records, support quality medication reviews, and communicate with patients by telephone regarding their medicines. You will also contribute to improving prescribing processes, supporting pharmacist-led clinics, and acting as a key point of contact for prescription and medication-related enquiries across primary care services

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS)., You will support the day-to-day delivery of primary care pharmacy services by assisting with prescription management, coordinating medication reviews, and maintaining accurate patient medication records in line with standard operating procedures.

You will receive and triage medication-related referrals and enquiries, support medicines reconciliation, organise pharmacist clinics and patient appointments, and liaise with GP practices, community pharmacies and other healthcare professionals to promote safe and cost-effective prescribing.

Requirements

  • Experience working with the public, with previous administrative experience; NHS or healthcare experience is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of medicines commonly prescribed in primary care and an awareness of legislation and best practice relating to the prescribing, storage and handling of medicines.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational, prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new clinical and prescribing systems.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, resilience and a commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and work in accordance with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde policies and General Pharmaceutical Council Standards for Pharmacy Professionals.
  • Willingness to undertake all mandatory training required for the role
