Job description

  • Salary: Gross monthly salary between EUR 5,994 and EUR 8,563 (scale 10) for a 36-hour work week.

Product Owner - Event Streaming Platform

Help shape the platform that powers real-time banking across Rabobank. Enable more than 350 engineering teams to build secure, scalable event-driven solutions supporting around 300 million daily events.

You and your job

Guide the roadmap, backlog and stakeholder alignment for Rabobank’s managed Kafka platform, delivered in partnership with Axual. As Product Owner Event Streaming, you work with Squad Godzilla within the Sub-Area Integration of the Tech4Engineering tribe to improve developer experience, simplify onboarding, strengthen governance and enable secure, compliant and scalable event-driven architecture across Rabobank. The team’s vision is clear:

You help engineering teams successfully adopt event streaming by simplifying user journeys, developing standards and guardrails, improving self-service capabilities and ensuring the platform evolves alongside the needs of its users., Increase adoption of Rabobank’s governance capabilities by making it easier for teams to request, manage and govern access to Kafka resources through standardised onboarding and self-service solutions.

  • Improve developer experience Partner with engineers, Solutions Architects and platform stakeholders to simplify onboarding journeys, improve documentation, clarify standards and reduce friction when using event-streaming capabilities.

  • Shape platform evolution

Work closely with Axual, Enterprise Architecture, Security, IT Risk and engineering teams to prioritise capabilities such as OAuth integration, Kafka Connect On-Prem, observability improvements, cost optimisation and compliance enhancements.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Product Owner or in a similar product leadership role within a technical environment
  • Experience working with DevOps teams, platform engineering, middleware, integration, infrastructure or related technology domains
  • Understanding of event streaming, platform engineering, distributed systems and integration concepts, or the ability to learn these domains quickly
  • Experience operating in complex environments where reliability, security, risk management and compliance play an important role
  • Experience managing and prioritising backlogs based on customer value, business impact, risk and technical dependencies
  • Ability to balance product, engineering, security and compliance requirements when making decisions
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, architecture, risk and business domains
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to different audiences

Nice to have

  • Experience working closely with software engineering teams
  • Experience with Kafka platforms, managed Kafka services or event-streaming technologies
  • Experience with developer platforms, middleware services or platform engineering practices
  • Familiarity with access management, ACLs, OAuth, certificates or platform compliance topics
  • Experience improving developer experience and self-service capabilities
  • Experience working with Axual or a similar event-streaming vendor

  • Shape the future of Rabobank’s Event Streaming Platform Define, maintain and prioritise the roadmap and backlog for Rabobank’s event-streaming platform and governance capabilities. Balance customer value, business impact, compliance requirements, operational stability and engineering capacity to maximise platform value.

  • Enable successful platform adoption Drive continuous improvement of the event-streaming governance layer built on top of Axual APIs, including ACL management via Nexa and Event-Streaming-as-Code. Simplify onboarding, improve documentation and provide guidance that helps teams use Kafka effectively within a regulated environment.

  • Connect business needs, engineering priorities and platform capabilities Manage the relationship with Axual and coordinate priorities across Rabobank stakeholders. Translate user needs, compliance expectations and technical requirements into clear product priorities and delivery outcomes.

Squad Godzilla is a DevOps middleware team responsible for enabling real-time event streaming across Rabobank. The team consists of DevOps Engineers, a Solutions Architect, a Tech Lead and a Product Owner, working closely together to continuously improve the platform and its user experience. You collaborate intensively with internal squads, developers, Solutions Architects, Enterprise Architecture, Security, IT Risk and Axual. Together, you ensure Rabobank engineers can use event streaming in a way that is secure, reliable, compliant and easy to adopt.
