Job description

Are you a client-side engineer who loves building foundational technologies that power experiences used by millions? Join the Apple Maps Navigation Frameworks team and help design, build, and evolve the core navigation framework that delivers route-based information across the entire Apple ecosystem.

You will own critical framework and daemon components that power navigation, ETAs, and routing intelligence across iPhone, Apple Watch, macOS, CarPlay, and Vision Pro. You’ll tackle deep technical challenges involving privacy, performance, energy efficiency, and complex geographic data processing, all while working at the core of Apple’s navigation stack.

If you enjoy building high-performance, memory-efficient frameworks and collaborating across multiple platform teams, this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of how people navigate the world with Apple., The Navigation Frameworks team builds the foundational services that power route and navigation functionality across Apple platforms. As part of this team, you will:

  • Design and implement APIs, frameworks, daemons, and internal protocols that form the backbone of Apple’s navigation experience.

  • Build scalable, performant, and resource-efficient systems using strong expertise in concurrency, threading, and memory management.

  • Develop secure and stable system APIs that enable internal and third-party applications to access core navigation capabilities.

  • Ship production-quality software in Objective-C, Swift, and C++, running across iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and more.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering partners to define requirements, plan integration points, and deliver high-impact features.

This role is focused on client-side platform engineering - building frameworks and system services rather than UI, app development, or backend/server systems.

Requirements

Do you have experience in System tuning?, Do you have a Master’s degree?, Experience with inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms such as XPC or similar technologies.

Strong debugging skills across the OS stack (frameworks, daemons, and supporting services).

Experience optimizing software for performance, energy efficiency, and resource constraints on mobile or embedded platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

5+ years of software engineering experience on client-side or platform-level systems, preferably on Unix-based or embedded platforms.

Strong proficiency in native, compiled languages such as Objective-C (preferred), Swift, C++, or C.

Demonstrated experience developing and shipping frameworks, daemons, SDKs, or system APIs.

Strong systems programming expertise, including concurrency, multithreading, memory/resource management, and performance tuning.

Proven ability to deliver production-quality software and collaborate effectively across engineering teams.

Proficiency with development tools such as Git, Xcode, LLDB, and Instruments.
