Job description

DUTIES As a successful candidate for the Application Engineer IV role, you will design software tools and subsystems to support software reuse and domain analysis and manage their implementation. You will manage software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, other accepted design techniques, and Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. You will estimate software development costs and schedules. You will review existing programs and assist in making refinements, reducing operating time, and improving current techniques. You will formulate and define specifications for software applications or modify and maintain existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer. You will be responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. You will instruct, direct, and check the work of other task personnel. You will be responsible for quality assurance review and evaluating existing and new software products.

SKILLS Monitor the health and status of security tool suites through IT system management

Maintain, upgrade, refresh, and update systems to ensure full operational capacity

Conduct database administration to identify and repair system/tool degradation within NISIRT

Analyze newly identified vulnerabilities and deficiencies; perform gap analysis

Research and evaluate commercial solutions to address security gaps at the direction of the Government

Present analysis of alternatives to the Government in a Technical Analysis package

Coordinate with ancillary organizations to procure, deliver, dispose of, and track required hardware/software

Prepare Configuration Plans and software enhancement plans; engineer solutions with GUI/web interfaces

Define, design, and integrate data retrieval interfaces for various scanning tools

Design, validate, and implement access controls across systems and services

Enhance, modify, and test COTS/GOTS hardware/software for compatibility with Enterprise IT/IC GovCloud architecture

Prepare Engineering Change Proposals for system configuration changes

Coordinate testing, integration, implementation, and deployment activities with external interface owners

Deploy security solutions across the IT Enterprise Network, including hardware and software installation

Conduct training on new tool capabilities and functions for authorized users of the security tool suite

Requirements

CERTIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES IAT Level II (CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, or Security+ CE).

QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. plus Four (4) years of experience, a Master’s degree plus Six (6) years of experience, a Bachelor’s degree plus Eight (8) years of experience, or an Associate’s degree plus Ten (10) years of professional experience is acceptable. Twelve (12) years of relevant experience is acceptable if the candidate does not possess a degree.

Additional Requirements:Experience with:

  • Troubleshooting experience (VM & application logs & tracking down sources/causes of VM or application issues)
  • Strong Linux skills (RHEL 8/9)
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Rancher for containerized workloads
  • Familiarity with Apache NiFi or similar data integration tools
  • Working knowledge of Ansible for automation and configuration management
  • Hands-on experience managing VMs in OpenStack, VMware, or AWS
  • Ability to troubleshoot SSH, performance, and network-related issues in Linux environments
  • Experience applying security hardening (STIG, STE/STN) and maintaining compliance documentation (SSP)
  • Experience with network flow monitoring tools
  • Active Security + Certification
  • Monitoring and managing production Linux VMs, * RedHat certification
  • Knowledge of Python
  • MongoDB, Kubernetes (Docker)
  • Familiar with Riverbed Technology
