Ground-Up Hyperscale Construction Leader Needed Director, Data Center Construction Amarillo, TX Exceptional Comp, The Director of Data Center Construction will serve as the senior on-the-ground leader responsible for delivering large-scale, mission-critical data center projects from pre-construction through commissioning. This individual will have ownership over budget, schedule, quality, and safety across multiple concurrent projects., * Lead all phases of data center construction projects from site preparation through commissioning and turnover, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Own the full project lifecycle including design coordination, permitting, procurement, subcontractor management, and final acceptance.
- Partner with engineering, real estate, operations, and executive leadership to align construction timelines with business objectives.
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of project managers, site superintendents, and construction coordinators.
- Establish and enforce construction standards, safety programs, and quality control processes across all active project sites.
- Oversee GC/subcontractor selection, contract negotiation, and performance management for all construction partners.
- Track and report project health, cost variances, schedule milestones, and risk mitigation plans to senior leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement in construction methodologies, materials, and vendor relationships to improve speed-to-market and cost efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to ensure smooth handoffs and operational readiness at project completion.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive construction management experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in data center or mission-critical facility construction.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale ($100M+) ground-up data center or critical infrastructure projects.
- Deep knowledge of data center infrastructure including mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), structured cabling, and civil site work.
- Proven ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary construction teams across concurrent projects.
- Strong background in GC management, subcontractor procurement, and contract administration.
- Familiarity with Tier III/IV data center design standards and uptime requirements.
- Proficiency with construction management platforms (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- PMP, CCM, or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
Benefits & conditions
Salary: $250,000 - $300,000 per year
