Artificial Intelligence Backup Devices Cloud Computing Reliability of Systems Information Technology Gsuite

Job description

We’re a fast-growing, AI-native law firm, and we’re building the infrastructure to match. As we scale, we need a true jack-of-all-trades IT leader who can walk in and own it all - someone who thrives on variety, moves fast, and wants real ownership rather than a narrow lane. This is a build role, not a maintenance seat. You’ll lead the projects that keep our systems reliable and our data locked down, bring in outside help when it makes sense, and stand up a helpdesk model from a blank page. You’ll report directly to the Head of Platform and have real latitude to build IT the way you think it should work., * Lead IT projects end to end, from scoping through rollout, covering network reliability, data protection, and security hygiene

  • Own a prioritized security roadmap and drive it forward, closing gaps rather than just flagging them
  • Keep the network, endpoints, and core systems running, monitored, and documented

Helpdesk Support Model

  • Design and stand up the firm’s helpdesk process from scratch: intake channels, ticketing, triage, prioritization, response targets, escalation paths, and a self-service knowledge base
  • Be the front line for day-to-day IT support requests until the helpdesk model is running, then keep it operating smoothly

Vendor and Contractor Coordination

  • Coordinate outside vendors and contractors as needed (e.g., specialized security or infrastructure work), managing scope, timelines, and handoffs
  • Make sure vendor-delivered work gets documented and absorbed into firm process rather than creating ongoing dependency

Security and Data Protection

  • Implement and maintain quality security practices across endpoints, identity, and data
  • Own data backup, recovery, and access-control practices
  • Support compliance and diligence needs as the firm scales

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience working within IT functions and systems administration
  • Broad, hands-on systems administration experience: networking, endpoint management, identity/access, and cloud-based productivity suites (Google Workspace or similar)
  • Practical security fundamentals - knows how to harden a network and protect data without needing a large team to do it
  • Experience building or significantly improving a helpdesk or IT support process, not just running one that already exists
  • Comfortable managing outside vendors and contractors, holding them accountable to scope and timeline
  • Self-directed, comfortable owning IT as a function of one, remotely, without a bench of specialists to lean on
  • Clear, plain-language communicator, able to explain technical risk and tradeoffs to non-technical leadership
  • Experience in a legal, financial, or other regulated professional-services environment
  • Familiarity with Clio or comparable legal practice management software
  • Prior experience going from an MSP-supported environment to an in-house model, or vice versa

Benefits & conditions

$90,000 - $120,000 a year - Full-time, Pulled from the full job description

  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Opportunities for advancement, * You’ll be IT’s founding hire at a firm that’s putting real investment behind getting this right. No inherited mess, no legacy tickets, no “that’s how we’ve always done it.” You get to design the systems, pick the tools, and set the standard - then watch the whole firm run better because of it.
  • Fully Remote - work from anywhere in California with world-class collaboration tools.
  • Tech-Enabled Efficiency - join a team that’s automating away the grunt work, not adding to it.
  • Culture That Wins Together - no egos, no bureaucracy - just sharp, driven people who push and support each other. Real ownership, real latitude, and real opportunities for advancement as the firm scales.
  • Competitive Compensation - $90k-120k depending on experience, plus benefits

About the company

We are not your traditional law firm. Laurel Employment Law is a fully remote, tech-driven plaintiff’s firm that’s redefining how employment law is practiced. We’re a team of smart, ambitious litigators who collaborate to deliver outstanding results for our clients - and we have fun doing it! We use cutting-edge legal tech to eliminate inefficiencies, empower autonomy, and give our attorneys the freedom to focus on what matters: winning for our clients and building meaningful careers. If you thrive in a high-performance, growth-oriented culture and want to do your best work without commuting, micromanagement, or outdated systems, this is the place for you., Laurel is built differently. We started the Firm asking an important question: “what if it didn’t have to suck to work at a law firm? In fact, what if it could be kind of awesome?” The result is an award-winning culture where we take the work seriously without ever taking ourselves too seriously. We’ve built a team of winners who work together to get more done, more efficiently - and here, that means building the systems that let everyone else do their best work. We win and we have fun doing it. It’s a better way to practice.
