Job description

Help drive a culture of experimentation and data-driven decision-making at Walmart scale to

continuously evolve and improve the customer experience.

We are looking for a software engineer to build and maintain systems that power Walmart’s self-serve

experimentation platform. This position sits on the Walmart Experimentation Platform team, where our

mission is to deliver a first-in-class, reliable, and scalable experimentation experience across all of

Walmart’s digital surfaces. You will work on real-time assignment engines, data pipelines, analytics

infrastructure, and developer tools that directly impact how Walmart makes product decisions.

What you’ll do…

  • Build and maintain reliable systems and data pipelines that support experimentation across Walmart’s global engineering teams
  • Write well-tested, production-quality code that runs at Walmart-scale traffic volumes
  • Work in an agile, diverse engineering team alongside data scientists, engineers, and analystsgrowing your technical skills and career
  • Develop features and fix defects across experimentation platform services, contributing clean, well-tested code through pull requests and code reviews
  • Contribute to design discussions and technical planning for team projects, asking questions and offering ideas
  • Contribute to project delivery by reviewing requirements; translating them into technical solutions with guidance from senior engineers; writing and developing code; testing; collaborating with cross-functional teams; troubleshooting bugs; and delivering on schedule
  • Troubleshoot production issues by gathering information (issue, impact, criticality, root cause); engaging senior engineers and support teams to assist in resolution; formulating an action plan; and executing on it
  • Support business outcomes by understanding the context behind assigned work and collaborating with teammates and stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet business needs
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for systems you build
  • Participate in on-call rotations, triaging issues and escalating when appropriate
  • Continuously learn new technologies and share knowledge through team presentations or brown bags

Requirements

  • Proficiency in one or more: Java, Scala, Go, Rust, or Node.js
  • Experience building and deploying services in cloud-based environments (GCP, Azure, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems fundamentals
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Experimentation (A/B Testing) or Feature Flag systems
  • Experience with streaming or batch data processing (Kafka, Spark, BigQuery)
  • Familiarity with containerized deployments (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Experience with AI/ML products, Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
