Job description

We are seeking an experienced R&D Lab Manager & Support Engineer to manage our research and development laboratory while providing hands-on technical support for ongoing projects. This role combines lab management responsibilities (20-30% of time) with direct engineering and technical work to support our innovation initiatives., Lab Management

  • Maintain and organize lab space, equipment, and inventory systems
  • Receive, process, and recycle materials according to safety protocols
  • Manage lab equipment calibration, maintenance, and storage
  • Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and spare parts inventory
  • Order parts through procurement system
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards Technical Execution

  • Assemble workcell mechanical and electrical components
  • Build prototype for testing and validation
  • Execute component reliability testing and draft test procedures
  • Troubleshoot components in lab and at deployment sites
  • Support site retrofits and installations
  • Perform basic CAD work for simple designs
  • Develop and manufacture rapid prototypes using 3D printing, extruded aluminum assembly, and similar techniques R&D Support

  • Provide KTLO (Keeping the Lights On) support for deployed platforms.
  • Support to San Jose CA lab operations remotely and through on-site travel as needed

Requirements

Experience with preventive maintenance procedures, industrial electrical, industrial controls, and industrial electronics & robotics

  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
    • Minimum 3 years of experience as an engineering technician or lab manager
    • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and manufacturing techniques, Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
  • Experience with robotics work cells and its control systems
  • Experience with programming/scripting (Batch, VB, PowerShell, Java, C#, Chef, Perl, Ruby and/or PHP), or experience with automation and any version control tools and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Experience demonstrating software engineering skills in a previous intership, work experience, coding competitions, or publications, or experience with programming/scripting (Batch, VB, PowerShell, Java, C#, Chef, Perl, Ruby and/or PHP) and experience in Ubuntu/Solaris
