Job description

We are seeking a highly resourceful Senior Data Scientist to join our international AI in Engineering team within Advanced Concepts & Capabilities. This role designs, builds, and deploys AI- and data-driven solutions that improve engineering productivity, accelerate model and simulation workflows, enhance access to engineering knowledge, and support the development of data-enabled engineering tools across Trane Technologies. The role operates within a globally distributed team focused on generative AI, machine learning, deep learning, high performance computing, data access, content engineering, data enhancement, and agent-based workflows.

What you will do

· Develop data science, machine learning, and generative AI solutions that support engineering use cases such as data access, content extraction, data enhancement, recall and extraction, and agent-enabled workflows.

· Build and refine data pipelines, preprocessing workflows, and model-ready datasets for engineering, test, and simulation data.

· Design, test, and deploy predictive, optimization, and AI-enabled applications that improve engineering productivity and decision-making.

· Support AI software development lifecycle initiatives by contributing to proof-of-concepts, use case evaluation, implementation planning, and enterprise-facing tool development.

· Help convert fragmented engineering knowledge and historical data into searchable, reusable, agent-accessible resources that improve continuity and reduce lost expertise.

· Collaborate with engineering, modeling and simulation, controls, and digital teams to integrate AI into tools, workflows, and product-development processes.

· Contribute to engineering data and AI initiatives spanning domain-specific chatbots, regulatory and compliance support tools, digital twins, time-series forecasting, solver acceleration, and physics-informed models.

· Work with cloud platforms, connectors, registries, and orchestration frameworks to enable secure and scalable AI solutions for engineering teams.

· Prepare concise technical readouts, visuals, and recommendations that communicate results and next steps to technical stakeholders and leadership.

· Mentor junior team members, contribute to team standards, and help build repeatable methods for AI and data science delivery across the international AI in Engineering organization.

Requirements

· Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.

· Strong experience with Python for data analysis, model development, and application development.

· Solid foundation in machine learning, statistical modeling, and generative AI concepts.

· Experience handling raw, unstructured, and engineering data, including preprocessing, feature development, and preparing data for modeling workflows.

· Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, cloud services, and modern AI/ML tooling.

· Experience building or supporting applications, workflows, or services that operationalize analytics or AI solutions.

· Ability to work effectively across a distributed, international team and partner with engineering stakeholders across multiple domains and locations.

· Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical business and engineering outcomes.

Key Competencies

· Applied data science for engineering and technical domains.

· Generative AI and agent-oriented workflow thinking.

· Data handling, reuse, enhancement, and access enablement.

· Collaboration in cross-functional and globally distributed engineering environments.

· Curiosity, initiative, and the ability to convert emerging AI capabilities into practical tools and workflows.

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.
