Job description

This position will fulfill critical development and development-lead responsibilities for the Enterprise Foundational Services (EFS) organization. EFS is the cornerstone of the Enterprise Platform and serves as the authoritative data source and core capability provider across key domains in FedEx’s Data & Technology organization: Shipment, Address, Customer, Geography, Location, Product and Geopolitical.

The primary duties of this role revolve around the development lead responsibilities for an EFS application, suite of applications, or domain (Example: Shipment Order, Global Address Service, Customer Location etc.). This includes interfaces with Architects, other Development Leads, Product Owners, Product Managers and the leadership team. Further this role will be responsible for coordinating with a significant sized Vendor Partners team.

The EFS organization is a key enabler for several strategic priority Purple Chips like Revenue Growth, Network 2.0, Europe, Clearance etc. EFS provides highly available services which are the common core and definitions that allow different lines of business to seamlessly exchange information enabling interoperability. EFS is also the lynchpin for modernization that will allow retirement of several legacy systems, leading to simplification helping us drive dollars from running the business to change the business.

Requirements

  • Java/J2EE technologies including Spring Boot framework
  • API/Web Services: Restful, JSON, SOAP, WSDL, XML, Microservices
  • Enterprise scale event driven architecture
  • Design and development of cloud native applications using Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
  • CI/CD integration experience using industry standard tools such as GitHub and Jenkins
  • SQL and NoSQL databases (DataStax and Oracle preferred)
  • Messaging technologies (JMS and Kafka)
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum/SAFe methodology

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting and collaborating with developers, analysts, and business staff throughout the organization. Ability to express complex technical information in a user-friendly language and style; present information effectively in one-on-one, and small group settings, including executive management.

Abilities/Knowledge/Skills Considered a Plus:

  • Proven focus on Reliability and Software Engineering principles and applying them based on Corporate Standards.
  • Defining and executing enterprise strategies and building software solutions using modern techniques to improve speed-to-market, reliability and security.
  • Strong collaboration skills to facilitate delivery across multiple scrum teams.
  • Ability to drive results through project and people leadership and business collaboration.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.

Minimum Experience

Three to four (3-4) years’ work experience in Platform Engineering or related field. Familiarity with conducting end-to end analyses, including data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and presentations. General understanding of the industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. Experience as a member of multi-functional project teams.
