Job description
As a Lead UX Designer on our Design Systems team, youâll help shape the future of Targetâs digital experiences across guest and team member products. Our design systems power experiences across platforms, enabling product teams to create consistent, accessible, and scalable solutions with greater speed and quality.
You will lead the creation and evolution of reusable components, patterns, documentation, and governance that enable teams to build exceptional experiences. As product creation evolves through AI-assisted workflows, prompt-based interfaces, and emerging builder tools, youâll help ensure our design systems remain structured, scalable, and ready to support both human and machine consumers.
This role combines systems thinking, design craft, and technical partnership. Youâll work closely with designers, engineers, product teams, and platform partners to create robust design system foundations while helping shape how those systems are consumed through modern development workflows, automation, and AI-enabled experiences.
Responsibilities :
- Partner with designers, engineers, product managers, and platform teams toidentify, prioritize, and deliver reusable components and patterns that drive consistency, efficiency, accessibility, and adoption across products.
- Lead the creation and evolution of components and patterns in Figma, ensuring alignment with code, design tokens, accessibility standards, governance practices, and emerging AI-enabled workflows. Create system assets that can be effectively consumed by both humans and machines.
- Create andmaintaindocumentation, usage guidance, metadata, implementation standards, and educational resources that help teams successfully adopt the system while supporting automation, tooling, and machine-readable consumption.
- Collaborate closely with engineering partners to ensure system assets are accurately represented in code and support modern development workflows across platforms.
- Contribute to the evolution of design system governance and architecture, ensuring the systemremainsscalable, maintainable, and adaptable as product creation evolves.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, tooling, and AI-assisted workflows, and help teams adopt new ways of working through education, mentorship, andadvocacy forsystems thinking.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in design systems as a Lead UX Designer, with a portfoliodemonstratingthe successful evolution and adoption of large-scale, multi-platform design systems serving a broad ecosystem of products and teams.
- Deepexpertisein design systems, including tokens, components, patterns, governance, accessibility, documentation, and system adoption.
- Experience designing, governing, and scalingcomponentlibraries in Figma across web, iOS, and Android platforms.
- Strong understanding of how design systems are implemented and consumed in code, with experience partnering closely with engineering teams to bring systems to life.
- Familiarity with emerging AI-assisted design and development workflows, including prompt-based interfaces, code generation, Figma Make, MCP-enabled tooling, and other technologies shaping the future of product creation.
- Understanding ofintent-driven design approaches and how patterns, metadata, and system structures enable consistent outcomes across human-authored, automated, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Strong systems-thinking skills with the ability to balance immediate product needs with long-term platform sustainability and scalability.
- Proven ability to influence strategy and drive alignment across design, engineering, product, accessibility, and platform partners.
- Strong communicationand storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for systems thinking, articulate design decisions, and build support fornew approaches.
- Fluency in responsive design, accessibility standards, and best practices across web, iOS, and Android platforms.
This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as âFlex for Your Dayâ) work arrangement based on Targetâs needs. A Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location thatâs not a Target location, does not have a desk at a Target location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team memberâs core role may be performed either remote or onsite at a Target location depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
Benefits & conditions
The pay range is $132,000.00 - $238,000.00
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and in some instances may include education, work experience and certifications.
