Job description

Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and providing support for Enterprise Server databases management systems adopted by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). Provide support in the administration, backup, integrity and security of various Enterprise databases. Responsible for database tasks from software upgrades and custom interfaces to troubleshooting.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  1. Monitor performance of database systems resources and Query throughput (QthD).

  2. Optimize SQL Code as necessary.

  3. Monitors and maintains database storage resources and database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.

  4. Installs, upgrades, migrates and configures Enterprise database systems (DBMS).

  5. Installs database software service packs and cumulative updates as necessary.

  6. Maintain database documentation as required.

  7. Maintain and administer database security access.

  8. Perform database ad-hoc backups and restores.

  9. Troubleshoot and resolve database connectivity issues and responds to database alerts.

  10. Follow Change Management processes to implement database configuration changes.

  11. Follow Problem Management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues.

  12. Write, execute, and validate DML (Data Manipulation Language), DDL (Data Definition Language), and DCL (Data Control Language) scripts to meet business and customer needs.

  13. Coordinate and perform data modifications and database maintenance.

  14. Assist Customer Support and Development by analyzing data to troubleshoot application issues.

  15. Optimize stored procedures, functions, and ad-hoc queries.

  16. Create and manage SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages to manage Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.

  17. On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as needed.

  18. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.

  • Ability to Communicate in Written Form, 1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or similar IT degree, or High School equivalent and three years (3) equivalent work experience in a database environment at Enterprise level.
