Job description

Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction., This position receives direct supervision from the IT Manager and the IT Administrator and may receive functional direction from the Regional Director. The incumbent provides a full range of technology services for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East, which includes East Jefferson Levee District, Orleans Levee District, Orleans Levee District Police Station, and Lake Borgne Levee District. This position maintains all user and facility computers, servers, phone system, camera system, and network switches. The incumbent also maintains a variety of miscellaneous equipment, firewalls, VPN , email archiver, storage arrays, backup appliances, and other network-attached devices ., * Oversee the work of outside computer consultants, coordinating tasks, monitoring progress, reviewing billing statements, etc.

  • Administers the technology services program which consists of equipment operations, production control, data entry and tape management functions.
  • Assists the IT Administrator or the IT Manager with any scope of work involving the planning, design and development of all components of large scale and high impact enterprise technical solutions, including budgetary considerations and allocation of resources to accomplish project goals.
  • Evaluates the enterprise information technology portfolio and provides recommendations on priorities to management personnel.
  • Applies an expert understanding of the technical system landscape to ensure that system development activities are successful. Reviews the work of lower-level personnel relative to the development of specific system components .
  • Serves as the SLFPA-E emergency response team during emergency events, tropical weather, floods, hurricanes, etc.) Is required to be on duty at the Safe House to ensure communication systems are functioning so that critical communications with staff, media, DOTD, CPRA, Army Corps of Engineers, and GOHSEP other parties are maintained.
  • Enters new employees into the Controls System to grant access to front entrance doors of the administration building., Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment. Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group, it may be filled as an IT Technical Specialist 1 or 2.

Requirements

Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associate’s degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master’s degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NOTE: A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.
