Job description

GDIT is seeking a skilled and experienced System Administrator to join our growing IT team. This mid-level position offers the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and optimization of our critical IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of system administration principles, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems (Windows or Linux), applications, and hardware.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and identify potential issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, escalating complex issues to senior staff when necessary.
  • Implement and maintain system security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Perform regular system backups and recovery procedures.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams on projects and initiatives.
  • Research and recommend new technologies and solutions to improve system performance and security.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of IT documentation and knowledge base articles.

Requirements

Skills: Linux, Operating Systems (OS), System Administration, Windows Hyper V Certifications: None Experience: 3 + years of related experience, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience in system administration.
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows or Linux).
  • In-depth knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required

  • Secret Clearance-must be active
  • Security+ or Security X or CASP or Level II equivalent Information Assurance Technician Certification in compliance with DoW Directive 8140 Workforce Program, * Industry certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA, or RHCE.

This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
