Job description
The Design Release Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of air intake systems for internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid electrified vehicles. Components may include low-pressure clean-side and dirty-side ducts, air cleaners, make-up air hoses, resonators, air filters, brackets, and in some cases high-pressure charge air ducts.
The engineer will own a portfolio of air intake system components across various stages of development, including early packaging studies, component design, engineering execution, and validation activities to meet system, engine, and vehicle-level performance requirements.
Key responsibilities include coordinating CAD design, CAE analysis, prototype development, physical testing, and maintaining supporting engineering documentation. The role also involves supporting sourcing activities, collaborating with suppliers, and ensuring development milestones are achieved while following established engineering methodologies such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) to minimize program risk.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Supporting supplier selection and development activities.
- Tracking supplier progress and component readiness.
- Providing onsite support at engine and vehicle assembly plants when required.
- Resolving quality concerns and supporting corrective actions.
- Validating engineering process changes and design updates.
- Driving technical cost-reduction and value optimization initiatives after vehicle launch.
- Supporting domestic and international travel to suppliers, proving grounds, technical centers, and manufacturing facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead and manage suppliers.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent engineering activities.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
- Ability to support activities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Air Intake Systems and related components.
- Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid work environment.
- General understanding of CAD design tools and engineering development processes.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, data analysis, and presentation development.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
