Job description

Our client, a large government systems integrator located at Camp Smith, HI, is looking to hire an onsite Database Administrator (DBA) for a 12-month contract. The consultant will support mission-critical database systems within a secure government environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for working on and supporting the future-state database architectures while administering, maintaining, securing, and optimizing enterprise SQL Server environments. This role requires expertise in database administration, performance tuning, automation, security compliance, high availability, and enterprise architecture., * Design and define enterprise database architectures supporting future-state IT capabilities and services.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to align database solutions with organizational strategies and operational objectives.
  • Develop and implement enterprise database standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Monitor database performance and optimize systems through performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • Diagnose and resolve database performance issues, errors, and outages.
  • Perform database installation, upgrades, migrations, patching, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Develop and implement database security standards and ensure compliance with organizational security policies.
  • Create and maintain database backups, disaster recovery procedures, and business continuity plans.
  • Configure and support high-availability database solutions, including clustering and failover environments.
  • Create automation scripts to streamline routine database administration tasks.
  • Design, develop, and maintain database reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies and process improvements.
  • Install, configure, and support mission-specific database applications.
  • Schedule and execute routine maintenance activities, security updates, and emergency database support.
  • Administer database accounts, permissions, access controls, password resets, and auditing functions.
  • Execute SQL scripts and provide logging and troubleshooting support in accordance with established SOPs.
  • Document database architecture, technical requirements, implementation plans, and operational procedures.
  • Develop Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M) supporting enterprise database initiatives.
  • Apply and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to ensure compliance with DoD security requirements.
  • Develop testing strategies to validate system functionality, performance, and security.
  • Analyze technical issues, recommend corrective actions, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects and enterprise modernization efforts as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of a Secret Clearance (preferably a TS but can upgrade)
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (equivalent experience may substitute for education).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience, including at least 3 years of Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server versions 2014, 2016, 2017, and/or 2019.
  • Strong knowledge of:

  • High Availability and Clustering
  • Database Security
  • Database Automation (PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar)
  • Experience supporting Windows Server operating systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
