Job description

Responsible for complex programming and providing high level administrative support for university wide IT applications. Oversees the implementations, installations, interfaces, and upgrades done by multiple IT teams and university departments to optimize the effectiveness and efficiencies of the interaction of information systems and organizational processes. Description of Duties

  • Assists with the planning and leading of application installations, upgrades and interfaces, including applying vendor provided fixes/patches.
  • Plans, schedules and engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously with competing deadlines.
  • Supervises team members including development, training and evaluation of performance.
  • Serves as a delegate for Manager of IT Application Administrator and as a backup in absence of supervisor or as requested, including attending department, functional, and project meetings.
  • May guide or provide work direction to assigned staff or as needed.
  • Records, assesses and resolves complex user incidents, problems, and service requests to provide a swift and effective resolution.
  • Identifies the root cause of a problem and initiates the most appropriate and economical problem solution, including working with vendors for product issue resolution.
  • Enables beneficial changes to be made to IT services through change management process across all affected areas.
  • Escalates to management’s attention incidents, service requests, and project tasks as necessary.
  • Assists team in resolving non-routine or complex application and procedural problem
  • Develops, improves, and maintains process and related documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
  • Trains technical staff on how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
  • Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
  • Consults with vendors to address application vulnerabilities.
  • Ensures that applications meet business and functional requirements and goals and fulfills user requirements.
  • Identifies and resolves application system issues, application and security compliance and interface specifications.
  • Acts as technology integration liaison between the functional units, technology teams, project manager and other areas.
  • Analyzes information and requirements to deliver functional and process requirements, use cases, process analysis and technical designs.
  • Collaborates with analysts, designers, system engineers, system owners, and internal as well as external customers in the implementation of applications.
  • Stays in contact with application vendors for prompt rectification of any problems and emergencies.
  • Oversees the monitoring of ERP systems, including scheduling, configuring and testing patches and upgrades as required and develops solutions for monitoring application services.
  • Coordinates with IT staff resources to assist with design specifications, program logic and data requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor. Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff. Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field from an accredited university. Preferred Education, Use of personal computer and ability to use Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, & Power Point. Technically fluent in relations database administration. Knowledge of enterprise-level applications including CRM, data warehouse, and others. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Other Excellent project management skills. Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies. Must have strong customer-service skills and excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Possess good problem resolution, analytical and decision making skills.

Requirements

Four (4) years of experience administering IT applications, including overseeing the development and implementation of software solutions. Experience in database coding such as SQL. Knowledge and experience with Windows Desktop and Server Operating Systems, including server applications. Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Vbcript, C#, Powershell, Pearl, Bash Shell Scripting, Java, ASP, PHP, SQL.
  • Experience writing interface code with application for static, reporting, and trending reports.
  • Knowledge and experience with Linux and Macintosh Desktop and Server Operating systems, including server applications., To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position., + High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree, Technical, or Trade School Degree/Certification or 60 Hours of College Hours
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university
  • Masters Degree from an accredited university
  • Ph. D. or other terminal degree from an accredited university
