Job description

United States, North Carolina, Durham 3901 South Miami Boulevard (Show on map) Jul 17, 2026 Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions (TGCS) is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Hardware Development Operations to lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization responsible for the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of industry-leading retail hardware solutions.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Hardware Development, this highly visible leadership role oversees a team of approximately 24 professionals, including a first-line manager, across multiple engineering and operational disciplines. The successful candidate will provide strategic technology leadership, operational excellence, customer solution execution, and organizational development while driving innovation through ownership of the Hardware Front-End Architecture and Design organization., * Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Hardware Development Operations organization, including approximately 24 professionals and first-line leadership.

  • Provide leadership across the following functional areas:
  • Hardware Development Operations
  • Quality Assurance

  • Human Factors Engineering

  • Laboratory Operations
  • Develop organizational capabilities through workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, coaching, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing engineering culture.

Hardware Architecture & Product Strategy

  • Lead the Hardware Front-End Engineering organization responsible for:
  • Product architecture development
  • Technology strategy and evaluation
  • Platform planning
  • Concept development
  • Early-stage product design
  • Feasibility analysis
  • Innovation initiatives
  • Partner with Product Management and Hardware Development leadership to define future hardware platforms and technology roadmaps.
  • Drive strategic engineering decisions that align technology investments with business objectives.

Customer Solutions & RPQ Leadership

  • Own the end-to-end Request for Price Quotation (RPQ) process supporting customer-specific hardware solutions.
  • Lead:
  • Technical solution development
  • Engineering feasibility assessments
  • Resource planning
  • Cost estimation
  • Design governance
  • Product release execution
  • Cross-functional coordination
  • Ensure timely execution of customer commitments while maintaining quality, schedule, and profitability objectives.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement across hardware development processes through:
  • Engineering quality initiatives
  • Incident management and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Oracle business process optimization
  • Development lifecycle improvements
  • Metrics and KPI management
  • Process automation, including the effective use of AI-enabled tools to improve engineering efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.
  • Champion data-driven decision making and operational excellence across the engineering organization.

Engineering Infrastructure

  • Provide ownership and governance of Hardware Development laboratories and engineering assets.
  • Ensure engineering teams have the tools, facilities, technologies, and capabilities required to successfully execute product development programs.
  • Maintain engineering environments that support innovation, quality, and efficient product delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware product development.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams.
  • Experience leading managers and multifunction engineering organizations.
  • Strong background in hardware architecture, product development, and engineering operations.
  • Proven success leading large cross-functional initiatives and organizational transformation efforts.
  • Experience collaborating with and presenting to executive leadership.
  • Experience effectively utilizing AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity, quality, documentation, decision making, and operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail technology or Point-of-Sale (POS) industry experience.
  • Experience with hardware architecture and platform strategy.
  • Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering and Industrial Design principles.
  • Experience with engineering quality systems and governance processes.
  • Experience managing customer-specific hardware solutions and customization programs.
  • Strong background in operational excellence and business process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage the practical and responsible use of AI tools within an engineering organization to improve productivity, collaboration, and overall team effectiveness.
