Job description

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in Oracle and SQL Server, and a strong emphasis on proactive monitoring, performance optimization, and tuning. This role will lead database operations, set standards, and drive continuous improvements to ensure reliability, scalability, and high performance of our data systems. Experience with Sybase ASE is a plus.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly analytical, and thrives in a proactive, data-driven environment where availability, performance, and efficiency are critical.

Job Functions, Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of complex Oracle and SQL Server database environments.
  • Collaborate with Product Owner and Architect to shape and prioritize the DBA backlog, influence roadmap decisions, and align database initiatives with broader business goals.
  • Provide expert-level support for database performance tuning, query optimization, and resource management.
  • Proactively monitor systems to ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability of SQL Server platforms
  • Implement backup/recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support application performance and data integrity.
  • Manage database access, roles, and security in compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Automate routine database tasks using scripts and job schedulers (e.g., JAMS, PowerShell).
  • Maintain database documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration, and SOPs.
  • Lead database upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Provide on-call support for critical issues and participate in root cause analysis.
  • Evaluate new database technologies and recommend improvements to the existing environment.
  • Mentor and guide junior DBAs and database engineers in best practices, troubleshooting, and scripting techniques.

Requirements

  • 6-9 years of experience with SQL Server (2016 or newer) database administration and engineering in a production environment.
  • 6-9+ years of experience with Oracle database administration
  • DBA experience with experience on liquid base and may be utilizing Liquibase on pipeline
  • Worked on Oracle and accustomed to PL/SQL. Some experienced with writing scripts and worked on migration project like this.
  • Deep understanding of performance tuning (execution plans, indexing), and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, high-volume SQL Server instances (including AlwaysOn, clustering, and replication).
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts, normalization, and data modeling techniques.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, SQL Agent, or scripting in CI/CD pipelines).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex database issues under pressure.
  • Experience working in a Windows Server environment with knowledge of Active Directory integration.
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and SDLC processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience in business intelligence role, including data warehousing and business intelligence tools, techniques and technology
  • Microsoft Certified Business Intelligence in the above required skills
  • Experience with Microsoft SSIS
  • Experience with relational databases: Sybase ASE, Oracle, MySQL and others a plus
  • Experience with analytic platforms (data mining, predictive modeling) a plus
