Job description

We’re an award-winning IT solutions provider to the Federal government seeking a Network Engineer to join our project team at a major federal agency., * Troubleshoot network, system, and security issues; maintain security tools (e.g., Nessus, Splunk, Burp Suite, SonarQube, Trivy).

  • Operate monitoring platforms (Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk) to collect data, generate reports, and support capacity planning.
  • Tune OS and network configurations to improve performance and resolve errors.
  • Assist development teams with application-level monitoring for availability and functionality.
  • Provide day-to-day support for Fortinet firewall, iptables, proxy, and basic Cisco switch/VPN configuration.
  • Manage internal network services (IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, firewall rules, micro-segmentation, authentication).
  • Write, test, and maintain automation scripts in Bash, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Administer Linux servers, virtualization (libvirt/kvm), and container technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes).
  • Help design, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and related networking components (CNI Network Policies, services, ingress, Helm).
  • Produce and keep up-to-date system documentation; use issue-tracking tools for ticket management.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders and solve problems independently with strong analytical skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer or comparable role.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols, diagnostics, and Cisco networking (routers, switches, VPN).
  • Proven Linux administration experience and ability to create/maintain Bash, Python, and PowerShell scripts.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes clusters (installation, configuration, troubleshooting) and container tooling (Docker, Podman, Ansible, Harbor).
  • Familiarity with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and certificate management.
  • Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and tune system configurations independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; detail-oriented with experience using ticketing/issue-tracking systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Additional programming experience (Java, Go, Perl, PHP, C/C++, Ruby, etc.).
  • Exposure to Fiber Channel SAN, database administration, or compliance hardening (e.g., security baselines).
  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust principles and network security best practices., Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may substitute for the degree.
