Job description

Primary Purpose: Perform complex computer system support work which involves maintaining and supporting infrastructure under the general direction of the Network Specialist Supervisor., 1. Manage and support Windows based computer labs located on the Windham School District campuses.

  1. Design, program, implement and maintain specialized routines and complex scripts to automate and enhance system and user functions.

  2. Perform programming of routine backups and archival of files stored on the network and assist in recovery efforts.

  3. Diagnose network operating system problems and in the implementation of resolution(s).

  4. Research, review, and evaluation of system hardware and software.

  5. Perform routine and complex maintenance tasks utilizing network support software.

  6. Manage performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance network resources efficiency.

  7. Troubleshoot user account problems, administration and systems security issues.

  8. Direct and supervise the work of others.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Policy Reports, and Law:

  1. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.

  2. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.

  3. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.

  4. Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard. Practices for Texas Educators.

Supervisor Responsibilities: Manage, evaluate, and supervise the work of others.

Requirements

Associates degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems or related field.

Four years full-time, wage-earning network support experience.

Each year of experience in excess of the required four years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year for year basis.

Technical or trade school courses in computer science or management information systems may be substituted for semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year for year basis.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with significant coursework in computer science or related field may be substituted for the required full-time, wage-earning experience for a maximum substitution of two years.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work with computers, operating systems, networks and install application software.

Knowledge of Windows, Linux/Unix operating systems preferred.

Knowledge of network communications and protocols.

Skill in the installation of network and computer hardware.

Ability to distinguish between hardware and software problems in a computer and network system.

Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and effectively., Ability to communicate (verbal and written), ability to instruct, ability to speak, ability to reason, ability to compile data, ability to interpret policy, ability to interpret procedures and data, ability to concentrate, ability to memorize, ability to alphabetize, ability to understand verbal and written instructions, ability to organize, ability to analyze, ability to maintain emotional control, ability to maintain confidentiality, ability to work with frequent interruptions., Ability to perform full duties of position, lift and carry up to 30 pounds, walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs and ramps, kneeling, stooping, reaching, hearing (with aid), visual acuity, speaking, travel by car, van, or airplane, driving of car/van, distinguishing colors, occasional prolonged and irregular work hours.
